I always found this particular idea of Da Vinci to be fascinating. As a history buff, the implications on how history may have changed drastically had he decided to perfect his original design. Even more fun is actually trying to imagine just how that perfected renaissance era tank would look like.

Nice work - solid analysis. Interesting on the academic outlook that DaVinci had the wheels going in opposite directions so that the plan couldn't be misused. Well, maybe. But I think it's more plausible that this was a sketch and he had not thought it through fully enough.

This reminded me of Assassin's creed.
Have you ever played Assassin's creed?

I don't think davinci envisaged this as anything like a modern tank, but rather as a mobile strong -point to be moved into position prior to battle and used to break up an enemy attack in a manner somewhat akin to the venetian galleasses at the battle of lepanto.

Leonardo expects me to maneuver this!? No instructions, of course!

Leonardo chose to have the tank be made from wood and have there be too many cannons. The wheels should be coming out from underneath.

There is a TV show called “Doing DaVinci” they actually did this tank full size.

Also gotta take into consideration of the recoil of those cannons. Those cannons will recoil 3-6 feet back. I don’t think wood alone can hold a cannon in place due to the immense recoil. Maybe if the tank has 1 or 2 guns then maybe but they’ll need lots of room for the recoil. I feel like all those guns will be pre-loaded then taken into battle because it takes about 3-6 people to operator a cannon. I can’t imagine how it big it needs to be to fit all those people and how heavy it must’ve been if built in a bigger size.

Please make a video about Da vinci's machine gun, im really curious that whether that kind of thing could exist at that time

My idea is that was a more static emplacement. The rotators may have been used to move the barrels of the cannons in position to simulate a continuous fire.
My theory is based on the assumption that Leonardo was trying to develop defensive weapons which can be used with a very limited manpower.

Breech-loaders did exist in Da Vinci's time.

It could have been used as psychological warfare similar to the German Airships in WW1. I can imagine that tank with a bunch of canons around it can look scary to an enemy on a battlefield.

Not necessarily; We have multiple extant examples of late 15th century cannons that were breechloaders. In fact, they were mostly small caliber, wrought iron pieces like those depicted here. Da Vinci probably intended that type to be used in his tank, for obvious reasons.

In the ancient Indian wars (10000 BCE), there was a use of one of the special weapons called Shataghni शतघ्नी (Shata शत=100, Ghni घ्नी=Killer).
