Another fact about the mona lisa is that it has two separate backgrounds that does not connect to each other. And it was said that it was bigger and had two columns in it on each side of her but it was cut out due to the painting not being able to fit in a frame. At least that's what my art teacher told me about it.

When you call someone or something infamous, it implies that that thing is famous for a bad reason. I wouldn't use that word to describe this painting.

I wonder at all the things she's seen in her life...Leonardo carefully painting her, her various owners, her eventual arrival to France, being stolen, being hidden in an attic, seeing huge crowds of admirers, having things thrown at her...

The worker was right. I think these artifacts should be preserved in their home countries.

I find it amazing that his brush strokes for her eyelashes and eyebrows must've been so small and light they faded over time

You know art historians have actually found out that the original painting on the mona lisa was neither a woman named this or the woman she makes in the short but a male lover of the painter at the time

Notice how at the beginning and in the caption it says "behind Mona Lisa's smile" and then doesn't talk about her smile

Just to clarify something about the last part, the painting you see in the museum is a copy, just like most paintings are. The real one is stored safely somewhere where the historians and other profesionals can look at it... same goes for most other things in museums

So if a person throws something at it and possibly destroying it, they just ruined the copy

honestly yes the painting should be in italy. as for all of my country's stolen things as well, since they make up like half of the british museum and the louvre lol (egypt)

Would love to see how she looks with brows and eyelashes but love that she's so popular without them. I also can understand wanting the painting in Italy.

The Mona Lisa is amazing. I hope she is protected behind glass or something now.

Somewhere in another timeline, The Mona Lisa is not smiling so obviously....and I'm from that timeline. And that also means, in that timeline, there was no Mona Lisa smile movie, nor were there any literatures nor magazines nor newspaper articles discussing the brilliance of the Mona Lisa smile. The fact that she was not smiling in the other timeline 'IS' what made the Mona Lisa so enigmatic....TO ARGUE whether she was happy, sad, depressed, etc...it was akin to the George Washington face on the one dollar bill...regarding facial expression....in fact, the George Washington mouth expression is exactly what the Mona Lisa kinda looked like!!!

I don't think "infamous" is the right word lmao

The painting is actually debated to inspired off of of one of Da Vinci’s pupils/lovers, Salai/Gian Giacomo Caprotti. If compared to Da Vinci’s other works (Saint John The Baptist for example), a lot of the features match up when compared to the Mona Lisa and portraits depicting Gian. Mona Lisa, when rearranged is “Mon Salai”. Wish this was talked about more. I’ve thought about it whenever we would talk about Da Vinci in school.

Well, Italian guy wasn't wrong when he said it should be brought back to Da Vinci's home country.

There is a painting done at the same time in the same place as Leonardo’s Mona Lisa that looks virtually identical. It was most likely done by a student of his and all the colors are crisp and fresh and you can see her with eyebrows and you can see the true colors of her clothing and background, unlike the original which has been yellowed and possibly even cropped.
