It's been said that a fine tune needs an ingenous composition, a cogenial arrangement, outstanding lyrics and skilled performers. Check, check, check, check.
That performance was magic and outstanding then, and it so remains today.

I remember to hear this song in Radio Luxembourg, in October of 1975. I had 12 years and i was in Lisbon, where it was very difficult to hear Radio Luxembourg. I remember how i loved this song. RIP Gary Brooker

I feel so lucky to have been able to go to 2 of their concerts in LA. An outstanding sixties band with a unique sound, style & talent.

Alan Cartwright, who was a bass player for Procol Harum between 1971 and 1976, died on March 4, 2021, at the age of 75. His cause of death was not revealed, but by the year 2020 he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. RIP

One of the most unique - and as u see with under 4000 views - most underrated songs. Like that xylophone tune.

I first heard this in the 1970s. Loved it from first hearing. His voice and the tune just so go together well. It always makes me smile to hear it.

As a young boy I liked this song so much. I played it over and over again. It has a special unique vibe and still living it. It is a special peace of music and love it still. Maybe because it is not mainstream but so utterly cool 😎

Gary’s band deserved far more recognition in the late 60’s/early ‘70’ s than they received, in my personal opinion - experimental & so musically proficient, or, to encapsulate, FAR OUT.
God Bless you & RIP, Gary. You made a young girl shine!!!
& Love to all Procol band members.

In '78, my father gave me a cassette recorder. It was accompanied by two cassettes with a recording and one empty (this was the way it was supposed to be in the USSR). This cassette with recordings of pop bands just turned my brain upside down! But two compositions have taken a special place in my memory. Pandora's Box (Procol Harum) and "Dust in the Wind" (Kansas). I kept the Kansas leftoverture 1976 record for myself - I periodically shake off the dust and insert it into the player to listen with my eyes ;)
