In this short video, we're talking about AIB and EBS offering 2% interest on certain deposit accounts. AIB and EBS are now offering 2% interest on certain deposit accounts but are these accounts the best options for Irish savers looking for instant access to their money? Unfortunately not. Up until now, placing your cash on deposit with Trade Republic was the only way to earn 2% interest from an instant access account. The EBS family savings account isn’t instant access as you’re restricted to one withdrawal per year and while both the AIB online saver and junior accounts are, there’s a catch.

For the online saver, 2% interest can only be earned on the first €1,000 deposited per month, up to a yearly maximum of €12,000 after which the interest earning amount resets to €1,000 per month (5). The junior saver has an account maximum of €1,000 for 2% interest. Trade Republic on the other hand is instant access and offers 2% interest on balances up to €50,000, over four times greater than AIB.

You can open up to 4 AIB online savers on your name so that maximum goes up to 48000 (4 x 12K)

Dan, Can we get your thoughts on "Lightyear" trading app interest rates please? They look healthy enough BUT, I don't think its backed by the €100, 000 deposit guarantee scheme which does NOT fill me full of confidence.

Trade Republic charges fees on the deposit. I was to transfer 300 euro there and fee was 3.50, it will take 3 months of interest just to cover the fees. And its fixed so the more u deposit the higher you pay =/

Please, reply this question. If I am not domiciled, do I have to pay taxes of the interest if I don't transfer that money to Ireland?

For the AIB savings account, do you need to have an AIB current account?

Just to note with the deposit account at trade Republic: Your first deposit is free! All deposits afterwards have a fee of 0.7%.. so if you have a lump sum of 50, 000 euro make it your first deposit (earning 2% which is 1000euros-33% tax = €670 a year (paid monthly 55.83) It is certainly a great way to invest your interest into stocks/index funds and such

Elon's offering 2% a day at the moment. YMMV.
