Trailblazer. Prolific. Two words that greatly define John S. Chase, a renowned modern architect, and the first African-American to enroll at the University of Texas. Upon graduation, Chase would make noticeable contributions in designing some of the buildings on the campus of Texas Southern University.

Nearly six years after his passing, the Houston Public Library's Julia Ideson Building played host to the "Chasing Perfection" exhibit, which recounts past accolades and career milestones. In this video, Mr. Chase's widow, children, and grandchildren tour the exhibit. Mayor Sylvester Turner also played witness and offered remarks on Chase's contributions in providing beauty to the Bayou City.
