Our planet's commitment to becoming more sustainable is hinged on a major metamorphosis of the electrical grid.

The grid is expected to transform from being a centrally orchestrated entity with inside-out power flows to a more democratized system where intelligence is distributed throughout. This transformation should happen "live" without bringing the grid down. This task is non trivial and warrants collaboration across a variety of disciplines such as power systems, controls, communications, computer science, economics, and operations research.
