Watch Noel Gallagher talk about the album “Be Here Now” and the lessons he learned from recording Oasis’s third studio album.

Learn more about the Noel Gallagher Collection of Gibson and Epiphone guitars:

In this excerpt from Gibson TV’s Icons with Noel Gallagher of Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Noel reflects on the third Oasis studio album, “Be Here Now” and the tour of America after their Knebworth gigs nearly ruined the band. Listen as he shares stories from the “Be Here Now,” recording sessions, how they were kicked out of Abbey Road Studios in London, and how he really feels about one of Oasis’s most successful albums.

Released on August 21, 1997, “Be Here Now” was the follow-up album to “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” and went on to sell millions of copies worldwide. But Noel isn’t a fan of the record. Watch as Noel reveals how he feels the band entered the studio too soon after their massive success with “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” Noel talks about the challenges of recording songs that he felt weren’t initially strong enough to make it onto the first two Oasis records and how some of the seven-plus minute songs affected the live shows. He reflects on the pressure of following up their first two iconic albums and how different “Be Here Now” was compared to “Definitely Maybe” and “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”

Even though he doesn’t like the album as a record, Britpop was in full swing, and Noel fondly recalls the chaotic yet enjoyable period that followed, talking about the band’s experiences on the road and the fact they were still a band having fun. This interview offers a unique glimpse into a pivotal moment in Oasis’s history and Noel’s personal journey as a songwriter, learning lessons from recording what is arguably one of the most successful albums in UK music history.

The Girl In The Dirty Shirt is super underrated, I've always loved that song and seems like nobody ever gives it enough credit.

As an Oasis, BE, LG, NGHFB fan, I absolutely love Be Here Now. It is my go to Oasis album. From buying the cassette version when it first released, it struck a chord in me that I can't explain, and has never let go. I think its that it just came out during a time when me and my mates were young, going out drinking, having house parties and without cares in the world. What a time to be alive. My personal favourite song from Be Here Now would have to be Magic Pie. Noel definitely needs to reassess his stance on this album.

As someone who has played guitar and drums for over 50 years, I think this album is excellent. It may not live up to the first two opuses which are absolutely perfect (and complementary) but it is largely underestimated.

Really happy that BHN is getting a lot of love in the comments, it's still my favourite Oasis record.

Yes, it's overly long, excessive, and loud. But on the other hand...

It's overly long, excessive and loud.

Their most ROCK effort to date. Love it.

But I still love the cacophony that is “D’you Know What I Mean?” …the build up to that guitar being turned loose after it was doing its own thing for the first part, it’s still a 10/10 song

Got in the line and bought the album the day it came out. Also saw them on tour in late 1997. Personally I love the record. It might be not as good as the first two, but it's pure madness.

The main issue for me it's the length. There's just one song that i can accept being 7 minutes long, and that's Fade in out, the rest should be at max 5 minutes long, including All around the world which lasts 9 (!!!) minutes and has a reprise right after. What were they thinking!?

I don't think the album is bad, it's their 3rd best, but i never listened to it from beginning to end. Never had the patience to do that.

yes and no, it has great iconic Oasis songs, Stand By Me, Around The World, Don't Go Away, D'You Know, Fade In Out, I think he essentially got bullied by the public into hating it - that being said it could've precisely just had way less songs, they were indeed outrageously long, and the third album should've definitely been The Masterplan

I’ve never been huge on live music or live recordings, so I tend to listen to the album my mood revolves around. To sit and listen to the individual albums, on their own and not comparing them to each other is more fair, to be honest. I love all three of those albums. ❤😊

The Be Here Now tour was Oasis at their highs live. Lucky enough to see their Den Bosch show in The Netherlands, biblical!

As much as Noel doesn't like BHN, the fans seem to love it. And rightly so - it's got a few of my fave Oasis songs on it

It's the only Oasis album that lets you feel like it's still the late 90's the sun is always shining, and you're on top of the world.
