I'd have liked you to address wage inflation for footballers. For example, based on 1 report I read Zidane's wage was £67, 000 per week. Whereas Pogba's is estimated at £300, 000 per week. Imagine you were calculating their cost over 5 years. Zidane's wages would equal £17.5M whilst Pogba's would equal £75M.
This makes Zidane cost £63.5M whilst Pogba works out to £164M.
Assuming Madrid's 2001 revenue stayed the same for 5 years, they would have made £600M in 5 years and Zidane would have been 10% of that.
Assuming United's 2015 revenue remained the same for 5 years they would have made £2.5Bn.
This makes Zidane cost roughly 10.5% of revenue over the length of his contract as opposed to roughly 6.5% for Pogba.
In spite of the surge in both wages and transfer fees, Pogba is roughly half of the transfer revenue of Zidane. This only backs up your point but I thought it important to note the importance of wages.
