I think the risk of blindness and deafness is a result of the risk of those lesions developing on your retina or on your inner ear or ear drum. It can cause scarring if the lesions are really bad. The lesions essentially are holes in your tissue and need to be repaired once the infection is cleared. If they aren’t too big, your body can replace some of that tissue, but if they’re too big, then your body fills it with protein that acts like cement or glue. It holds the structure in place, but it’s not functional.

It’s hard to say whether any one individual will have this scenario happen or not. We can only do statistics at this point and say that there’s a percentage of people who lose their hearing or vision after having an infection. But I’m not sure we can give a number based on at what point we catch the infection.

By the way, this happens with every sickness you contract. Cells die and leave holes in your tissues and organs. Most of the time, it’s fine, you get sick, spend a lot of resources fighting it off, and get minimal micro scars that you don’t notice. It doesn’t affect your life or your ability in any noticeable way, but it’s still happening. Different bugs can infect different parts of your body. That’s why most sicknesses don’t blind people. Most can’t get into and infect the cells in your eyes. But whatever part of the body does get infected gets damaged. And if it gets damaged enough (it usually is an uncontrolled infection that hasn’t been treated) then that part can fail. All of this happened routinely before we had antibiotics, antivirals and anti fungals.

I wouldn’t worry about smallpox. It’s eradicated and we have vaccines for it. But this is just a reminder that vaccines on the whole are preventing all of us from suffering some of the worst diseases that have plagued humanity for millennia. In fact things are so good for most of us in this regard, that there are large groups of people who think vaccines are unnecessary and pose a higher health risk to themselves and their children than contracting the illness they prevent. And ironically, it’s the staggering success of the vaccine that allows them to think that because they’ve never encountered anyone with smallpox or polio.

And I said what I said earlier about how infections cause scarring of your organs even if you don’t notice it right away because it’s still worth getting vaccinated against something that isn’t likely to kill you. Measles for instance is still worth getting vaccinated against. Not only does it prevent your body from going through any more scarring than it has to, but it prevents you from spreading to those who are more vulnerable or who can’t get the vaccine due to an allergy being immunocompromised etc..

These illnesses are no joke, and we can’t afford to take things for granted and start thinking we don’t need vaccines because nothing will happen to us.

Hiya Christene! I love your videos! To answer your question around 0:26, you're talking about the video that was about the brain eating amoeba parasite. I dont think you watched the one about the most dangerous virus. Anyway, I hope you have a great day!❤

The best way you can protect yourself probably is to VACCINATE, btw vaccination works as a preventive measure, so if you get any disease, stay at home and listen to the doctor probobly.
There are some virus like the lyssa virus which causes rabies(its the deadliest), and the good news is that if you get rabies vaccine during the time when symptoms haven't started you will be fine and stuff, but if you start showing symptoms, rabies at that time almost 100%fatal and doctors can currently at the time of posting this can do nothing but hope that you survive, which is unlikes
