The Batty Christmas Mango Fandango

It's high summer in Australia and that means mangoes.
Lots and lots of juicy, sweet mangoes.
Mangoes are usually included in the diet of our bats in care through the hot summer months and they not only provide enrichment but also a lovely taste treat that is enjoyed by all.
Our now flying larger orphaned juveniles have been introduced to the joys of mangoes and they dig right in like more experienced and seasoned mango lovers.

The babies in the wings are the most amazing. What an aerodynamic feat it is that Bat Moms can fly with the little ones tucked under the wing.

I just love them, I heard a bat expert on the radio some time ago, he saied that bats are weary important for the eco system, they are responsible for more polynating then bees and insects, and they have falsely been accused for spreading deseses.
He saied that there is mutch fruits and nuts who depends on bats to polynate the flowers.
So these cute bats are a misunderstood breed. And bloodsucking bats are rear, only one or two species do that, most of them eat fruit and insects.
Rice plants are dipending on bats to eat the insects that harm the rice plant, some farmers tried to kill bats and when they did that, the rice production was lover in the areas where they killed the bats, so luckily they stopped killing them.

Oh, deep joy seeing this. The rest of the world is in a complete mess but watching this is a reminder that there's still a lot to smile about and be grateful for. Take care, everyone.
