As a retired ESL teacher and proud wife of a fine man (born in Mexico), our family has long been troubled by the actions and words of the eternally clueless Ms. Nielsen. Her 'Ivy League white girl mindset' kept her completely out of touch, unable to relate or even appreciate the heartbreaking problems and real-world dilemmas facing immigrants in peril. Which in turn made it impossible for her or, DHS colleagues to suggest/create policies - both humane, yet practical. Once we came to that 'cage' part? I knew Lady White-bread was in deep doo-doo. While I'm pleased she is headed out the door; I am also concerned about who is going to replace her.
