Czech Philharmonic presents Mahler Symphony No. 5

Following their critically acclaimed recording of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, the Czech Philharmonic and Semyon Bychkov continue their Pentatone Mahler cycle with a recording of the composer’s Fifth. The symphony marks a changing mind for Mahler and, where his earlier symphonies follow similar schemes indebted to the composer’s vocal music, and each following a Romantic teleology of darkness to light, the Fifth is much more complex.
