The Moscow flag presents St. George's the Winner (rus. Святой Георгий Победитель), at white horse, killing a black dragon with a spear. One of the matryrs of Catholic and Orthodox Church, holly patron of England, Russia and Georgia (in his name is originated a name of the country). His silhuoette also occurs at Maltese flag at the sign in the canton.

Btw this animal on flag is called "Babr", it is misspeling of "Bobr" which means "beaver", and that misspeling occured via not so good translating beetwen two languages.

Kazans flag is Zilant. This is translated snake from the Tatar language. Zilant is a creature in Tatar mythology with pronounced bird features. After the conquest of the Kazan Khanate, Zilant was turned into a "Kazan dragon" by Russian heraldists.
