I use my credit card to buy things online. I pay off the whole thing without ever paying interest . It’s called discipline!

Here's how my wife and I do it: we know what we need to buy, and if we cannot buy it in a local store, then that's when we buy it online. We plan to get it next paycheck. During the budgeting process, we dedicate that amount of money that we need, and ONLY that exact amount of money that we need to get that item. As soon as our payday checks go through, (we tithe online, then) we buy whatever item(s) we needed to get from online and only those items. Then whatever money we need for envelopes gets withdrawn. Then we are sure that our bank account doesn't have to be touched until next payday.

This works for a few reasons

1. There's a waiting period between thinking we need something and buying it. If we don't remember by next payday, we probably don't need it.
2. It keeps as much shopping as possible in cash. We are forced to get out of the house and bring things home.
3. It's precise. We can be a click away from checkout and see the total that we have to put into our budgeting tool.
4. It still keeps all of our spending planned and intentional. There's no "We have $100 for online". No way to accidentally go over.
5. Wife and I agree on spending TOGETHER before doing anything.

I opened another account on capital one 360- no fees and u can make a lot of sinking funds for free. We use that debit card for online expenses and are slowing replacing our cash envelopes over to that debit account now that we are skilled budgeters. My husband doesn’t like using our regular debit card for security reasons.
