This is a Motormouth couple car review of the higher-performance Acura MDX called the Acura MDX Type S. With its aggressive stance and powerful engine, it’s hard not to like the new Acura MDX Type S! It has a 3L turbo V6 engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Acura recommends premium fuel. This premium SUV has rear biased super handling AWD, track-inspired torque vectoring technology, red brembo brakes, a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension for improved ride quality and handling. The Type S comes with ride height adjustable air suspension, which can lower the ride height in sport modes or raise it with the new lift mode for extra ground clearance. The MDX Type S has an aggressive look with a long hood and an oversized 3D diamond patterned grille, quad round exhaust finishers, LED Jewel Eye headlights, LED taillights, LED fog lights and Type S badging. This model has the largest wheel and tire pairing with 21” alloy wheels wrapped in wide performance tires. The base model Type S has 21” shark grey wheels and the top trim Berlina black machine-finished wheels. Standard features include a 12.3” display with True Touchpad Interface and Amazon Alexa, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12.3” digital instrument display, wireless charger, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated flat bottom steering wheel, driver and passenger power seats with memory system, ultra-suede and leather seats, surround view camera, panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and a hands-free power tailgate with walk away auto close. The top Type S trim is where you’ll find gloss black exterior accents, black roof rails, a head-up display, metallic wood trim, a 16-way power driver and passenger seat with 4-way power lumbar support, interior accent lighting with 25 light up areas, quilted leather trimmed upholstery in first and second rows, massage front seats and a 25-speaker ELS Studio Signature Edition audio system. The MDX Type S starts at $79,000 CAD/$66,700 USD ad the Type S Ultra $83,000 CAD/$72,050 USD Advance.

I agree with Zach and I’ve said this for the past year after researching this class for 2 years. If you’re looking for something fun to drive in this class the options are limited. Power doesn’t equate to “fun”. The Q7 has power but boring to drive. Double front wishbones we’re removed at MMC and the upgraded audio system with 23 speaker can only be had in the SQ7 now. Not to mention the engine change at MMC.

I’ve had my MDX for a month and amazed by the flexibility between comfort and fun with the dynamic modes. The air suspension is really a marvel. I also like how it’s fun but luxurious options are available. Most sporty trims make you get uncomfortable seating and Acura really did a good job balancing the sport and the luxury.

I get several compliments on my Advance trim and converted two people in the month I’ve had it that either owned German or had plans to purchase. There’s simply nothing in this class that offers the fun to drive aspect with the feature content as Zach mentioned. Particularly when you’re talking air suspension with adaptive dampers and the double front wishbone suspension.

My wife has her MDX TYPE S for three weeks. SHE LOVES IT. Handles great and ride is fabulous, so much fun to drive.

My brother in law has the MDX and my sister has the RDX. Both vehicles are very nice and they have no complaints so far. I’ve always been an Acura fan, but I’ve never owned one. This MDX looks fantastic. Keep up the fantastic videos guys. I always look forward to seeing them.

I just bought my MDX, Type S Advance in Liquid Carbon Metallic and I love it! I would have to spend an extra 20k to 30k if I wanted a German equivalent with all the options.

I have a 2020 RDX and the track pad is really easy to use. Every two weeks I have to drive from Houston to Austin for work and I drive many different cars and they all have their pros and cons. A touch screen would be great but I would still use the track pad over the touch screen. But that’s me

I have an RDX and I’m one of those who has gotten used to the track pad and like it 😂. Basically the track pad is the “touch screen” so to speak. Wherever my figure touches on the pad correlates to the same place on the screen. However, I agree they should make the screen a touch for one major reason, navigation. Entering an address on the touch pad is pretty cumbersome to get the right letters and numbers entered in ( my fingers must be too fat). The next suggestion I have for Acura is take the NSX power train with its hybrid system and put that in a new large suv to compete with large infinity, Lexus, maybe even Yukon and Wagoneer. Probably will never happen as Honda has never really gone that big but wouldn’t that be interesting…..😂

We've had our MDX TypeS for a month now. Love the ride in any of the different modes. Just take your pick for how you feeling. Turning radius is fantastic. During parking maneuvers the surround camera is terrific and can also be enabled anytime moving forward or reversing. The track pad is easy to master by feel once you spend a day or two with it(I won't miss the smudges on a touch screen). The things I don't like: 1) the seam stitching on the front center console is kinda irritating when wearing short sleeves. 2) Paint has way to much orange peel to be Acura's top model.
