If you have a lot of green but still have a lot of possible words, continue playing other random words to eliminate letters.

Once you figure out most of the letters (SHA_E), you should use a completely different, unrelated word that uses as many options dor that last consonant as possible. I think I tried pedal or something like that to test shade, shale and shape.

You don't need to put the green letters every time. You know what to put in these spots, so try words with different letters first in order to know which letters are in the word.

Instead of trying the same thing over and over, try a different word that uses the letters you think could fit in the missing spot to do a mass elimination round. Like “plaid” would have instantly told you a lot if you tried it on like the 4th line.
