He always used it so well...."as a precussionist." Hypnotic.

I get a kick hearing him talk about these machines in such detail and with such enthusiasm. Always inspires me to write more demos.

It's hard to find interviews with him going into details about music like this.

Although he resisted, this man is creative and big enough to see the possibilities of using a drum machine and not be "threatened". He used both, live drums and the drum machine together. Collins was a creative force, unafraid to experiment, partly because of his work with Genesis and Brand X. Phil was never 'stuck'. He was the leader! A truly complex and deep individual.

I remember one of Phil C. songs that was always playing when I was in training at JFK.

He makes a fantastic point about how rhythmic, hypnotic and melodic his drum machine parts were, totally different to the stiff rep the instrument had due to the Kraftwerk stuff.

His pioneering of the gated reverb drum sound, his use of the Roland drum machines, his fusion of ambient synth sounds with horns… Phil Collins is the unacknowledged godfather of pop music.

Very detailed and informative, even though i knew about nearly all his uses of the 78 & 808. A shame more of this interview did not make it into the film.

Damn Phil, you had me googling for 10 minutes trying to find the 808 used on the Abacab album, lol !!

Turns out it runs all through "Man on the Corner". I had always just assumed it was the CR-78.
