Hercule Poirot is back to solve another murder - this time in Egypt! How does Kenneth Branagh's second turn as Poirot hold up? I break it down in my review.

The character of Poirot and his reasons for being a detective, his history and his personality and compassion for people and otherness are what make him such a wonderful character. The murders are kind of a side thing, especially in the books. I have always been a fan of David Suchet's portrayal of Poirot as he understood the character, but your descriptions of Kenneth Brannagh's portrayal have me curious to watch them now too.

There's really only one other iconic Poirot, and thats the one on the TV Show that ran for an outstanding 18 seasons and 70-something episodes.

on a different note, I appreciate (and trust) the way you incorporate ads in your videos. I think it's because you genuinely seem to have incorporated the products into your life first. Thanks for that and great good luck with your fitness/wellness journey.

This was a different kind of review from you. I liked it. I’m a huge Poirot fan, and a big Branagh fan, but admittedly I was conflicted about Branagh’s Poirot. It’s so difficult to follow the legend that is Suchet. I really don’t need a lost love for Poirot, a consistent part of his writing was that he never had romantic interest in anyone aside from one specific woman who was Poirot’s opposite in every way, and therefore an impossible love. Suchet okayed the character as ‘asexual’, and I loved that interpretation and thought it in line with the book.

But Branagh is still a towering actor, and I’m down for a vulnerable and perhaps more dramatic Poirot. Let’s see how it goes!

This is one of my favorite Poirot stories, I just love Jackie and her single-minded determination. I am watching this next week, hopefully I enjoy this version.

If you're going to have a scene set in bright daytime sunlight and you need to composite the background—shoot it outside.
Many filmmakers have learned this already. There is no replacing natural sunlight. Just put up your requisite bluescreens behind and you're done.
Nothing can replace bright, mid-day natural sunlight convincingly.

Thanks for the review Dan. I plan to see it Saturday. I love Branagh and like the cast and I'm looking forward to a fun all-star murder mystery. They just don't do these kinds of movies much anymore.

Death On The Nile is my favourite Poirot story, David Sucet is my favourite Poirot and while I knew who did what this threw me through the loops of questioning what I knew to be true...

Like MURDER, this was shot on wide format (65mm) film giving it that extraordinary look that we have pretty much lost in the digital era. Lucky that it got a 70mm release here in NY. It's a gorgeous looking movie, especially when seen projected from 70mm film.

Has there ever been a more unfortunate casting implosion from initial hire/shoot to release? Yikes.

I thought MOTOE was a bit underwhelming considering the cast, but I'm excited to hear Branaugh might be hitting stride with this film. Will definitely be checking it out.

My sister who hates going to the movies asked when we were going to see this movie together. Both of us love murder mysteries, so I'm really glad that it's getting good reviews. I'm really excited to see it with her. I wish you wouldn't show scenes from the movie (I haven't seen any of the trailers), but other then that, thanks for the review!

I like the novel but it's slow and read that you could really feel the drag in the movie. Was mixed on murder in the orient express which I saw in theaters (was half the age of everyone else in theater). Not sure about going to theater on this

"Jennifer Saunders and more" just proves that Americans don't understand the CULTURAL IMPACT of Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders (ie. ICONIC comedy duo French & Saunders) reuniting on screen together!!
