Getting the lead right with gen 3 and gen 4 jets in air RB is really difficult.

Everything you’ve done up to this point will tell you “I aim here” and your bullets will come up short because you are both farther than you think and everyone is moving faster than you think.

F-104 is what happens when the design team run out of idea and decided to just strap a cokpit and a smol wing to the most powerful jet engine available, give it a marketable/awesome name and then offer it as their latest cutting-edge fighter plane.

Unlocked it a week ago.
First games were a total horror, only dying and sometimes 1 kill.
After a time I learnt certain things:
- Be confident in using Aim-9Bs. If they can miss, they will miss anyway, no point in saving them if RNG can fuck it up anyways.
- You won't learn a gun. It will always be a hit or miss.
- BE aggresive. Never climb. Never be scared of getting entire horde on ur tail, nor getting AAms on ur tail. With light manouvers, you will dodge missiles and pretty much outspeed all the jets.
- Try side flying and then going into heat of the battle. It's your best chance.
- If Mig-21 focuses on you, try manouvering. They have same weakness as you. Can't aim with their 23mms at mach speeds anyways.
- Always try getting onto enemy tail. Don't be scared if you outspeed them. They won't mostly have time, nor speed to react anyway and you can just catch them in any other pass.
- Be ready for getting uptiered into premium hell with bunch of idiots on both sides.
- Try taking around 20-30 minutes of fuel. You won't be more agile with less of it anyway.

a reminder that gaijin thinks that the 104, 100d, F86-26, and by extension the F-4C is at the same BR with magic 2s, AIM 9Ls, and r60Ms.

They genuinely think flareless jets from the 50s should be facing SU-25ks and Yak-38s, both vehicles with over 20G missiles when your vehicle only gets Aim 9Es or 9Bs.

For me F-104 is just perfect. I found out that it's great for my gameplay style. Yes, 9B are quite terrible, but i just love it's insane speed and 750 rounds is just enough to shoot freely

i think the guns on this plane gets people because when your going fast, the muzzle velocity feels very low, but when you are trying to hit someone going under 300 mph, you constantly miss or overshoot them
