Some people span alternate universes, some are at the epicenter of these changes. Along with Spock, Kirk was one of these factors. His entire life was altered by the appearance of Nero changing the timelines therefore subsequent decisions made by the young Jim Kirk brought about further and further changes.

The Kelvin was just the beginning, let's delve into the career of Starfleet's youngest captain. And try to justify why he was promoted from Cadet to Captain.

Spoiler alert, you can't. It's a film.

Star Trek 2009 was my first introduction to Star Trek. I haven't even heard about Star Trek until that time. After watching it, I loved it. It was amazing. I enjoyed it more than Star Wars. Then, I heard about the Original Series and I watched it along with its movies. They were all really good, even part 5.

The first time I watched the original series, I could tell that this Captain Kirk was more mature and a better Captain. Chris Pine's version was young and inexperienced. Once I watched Star Trek Beyond, there was a smile on my face because this Captain Kirk reminded me of William Shatners. Both versions are great and I love what William Shatner and Chris Pine did for the role.

This is the timeline that got me into Star Trek. These three Star Trek movies and Star Trek: Discovery TV series are way more thrilling then the other shows.

13:24 ; I didn't know this guy was still around by later films. As a minor character that survived three films based in the mid 2200s of Starfleet with a red shirt, he deserves a medal.

I've honestly always loved this version of Kirk. Maybe it's because I never had the huge attachment to the original series, but this version of Kirk is amazing just like the original version and I love Chris Pine in this role! Chris Pine has been in several other movies including dating all the way back to The Princess Diaries 2 and he is damn good in every role! I don't know if he's been recognized for it, but he's a damn good actor and perhaps maybe he is an underappreciated actor.

While it is crazy he went from Cadet to Captain in one film, the actual length of time from his birth to his captaincy isn't that far off from the Prime Kirk's. He was born in 2233 and took command of the Enterprise in 2258, a total of 25 years, three less than the original and Pike even says he made a mistake and held him up another year.

I love the "Temporal Interference" moment. Same with the "Omega glitch" that happened in the 'Failed programs' video. It's just fun. Great work, as always.

Can you please do a more in depth look at the story of Q in the Kelvin timeline? I've never heard of that story but it sounds incredibly interesting!

Kelvin timeline > Discovery.

Doesn't matter if it's Bill or Chris, Kirk is the best.

I genuinely LOVE the _Kelvin Timeline._ It fits beautifully into "Trek Lore" and is just... Fun. It's pure potential. And anything can happen.

Can we all take a moment that LT. Hendorff, G. P. is the most badass Red Shirt in the Kelvin Universe? Could it be said that he is the Kelvin Version of the "Most Interesting Man in the World"? After all. Fun fact: He too was a Star Trek Red Shirt.

I love the Kelvin timeline - I hope there'll be ore movies in the future. As per usual you deliver a pleasantly narrated, precise and concise look into a topic. Always a pleasure and I look forward to anything you do.

The "Kelvin" Kirk is the type of captain that "goes down for the ship" not "goes down with the ship"

WOW, great back story! They really need to make a movie with Q and the Borg spear for the Kelvin Universe.

"Q wanted to see what the future looked like here."

Q: "It was shiny.  With too many lens-flares.  One wonders how anyone could see anything."

From looking into the universe of the Kelvin timeline I always felt like Kirk's promotion was more of a PR stunt.

He was already known as the "captain" who brought the Enterprise home with the surviving Vulcans.

And here's just a bit of conspiracy theory lol. I read the comic and it seemed to me the Pike had something to do with Section 31. Maybe Kirk was supposed to be a part of a new crop of captains, but with his moral choices over time they couldn't use him, which is why Adm. Marcus put him as a sacrifice to start war with the Klingons....I just had a whole lot of chocolate so you can ignore me lol...but seriously though...

Excellent video, really summing up the differences and virtues of this Kirk.
Being a 'hypercharged' version of the character, some hyperbole does likely slip in from the writers (including the claim of 'near genius level' IQ) but stops short of outright superhero inflation.
