Ozone layer is broken. That's why that happens. It means they are partially breathing space air. [Humans can't breathe in space because there is no breathable oxygen and the environment is a vacuum:

Vacuum
Space is a vacuum, meaning there is little matter between stars and planets. The vacuum would pull air out of your lungs, causing you to suffocate within minutes.

Oxygen deprivation
In a vacuum, oxygen diffuses out of the bloodstream, leading to a condition called hypoxia, or oxygen deprivation. Within 15 seconds, deoxygenated blood would begin to be delivered to the brain, causing unconsciousness.

Lung expansion
In a low-pressure environment like space, air in your lungs would likely expand quickly and your lungs would burst. ]
I also LITERALLY said to myself that I didn't want my children being so high up in the Mountains because they could fall. Lol. I LITERALLY said all these things verbatim in my head. I also didn't like the talk about aliens.

It hits people in different ways

In the hymalays they drink special tea.
its always a good idea to aclimatise for somedays before going up a high mountain
Take multivitiamins and iron some weeks before you go to ensure that your body can build up redblood cells to the best of its ability.
Take lots of water,
Rest regularly
Return down the mountain as soon as you feel unwell with someone else
Some people carry oxygen for emergencies.
Smokers or people who have lung conditions are more suseptical to onset

I live at 4, 500 feet and don't ever have a problem when I climb to 10, 000+. I feel bad for that guy.
