I have been to Paris three times, as a general rule I would say if someone approaches you on the street, this is usually bad news, avoid these people. Furthermore try to avoid busy areas, for instance visit the Louvre and the Eiffeltower early in the day. Paris is a great city, I've been approached on the street but did not get into trouble, the French words "Non merci" help and also they usually understand "no thanks".

Beware at train stations like Gare du Nord of fake taxi dispatchers. The cab rank is at the side of the station, not in front. If someone asks if you need a cab, just walk to the right and that's where the legal taxis are. This happened to me in 2004, a guy approached me asking me if I needed a cab. He waved and an unmarked car pulled up. I smelled a rat and walked on.

Visit Eiffel and leave scam is one thing but pick pocketing and people talking trash is another problem. To be honest I just think Paris is Hyped and not a vacation place for sure.

Been to Paris three times, if someone approaches you, you know it's bad, the Bracelet scam at SacreCoeur was nerve racking as guy grabbed my arm and wouldn't let go then bullied me to pay for something I didn't even want.

I dont think a genuine French person will never approach a tourist

Paris - One guy approached me and asked me if I wanted my picture drawn. I just walked away, he pursued me, drew a squiggly on a blank paper, and then demanded payment. I cursed him out, he cursed me out and made a scene as I walked away from him. Best to ignore these people from the gitt-go. Then just west of the Eiffel tower some guys were doing the shell game. I watched from a safe area and noticed the pea was passed off to a comrade of the shell game host so that the tourist had no chance of making any selection. When the gendarmerie patrol approached these guys would pack up in a second, and once the gendarmerie passed they set up shop just as quick. In 1977 these scammers were not there, but in 2013 they were everywhere.

These scams are older than time, and there is so much information out there about these scams that I increasingly have no sympathy with anyone who is still getting scammed by any of these in 2023.

Just comme back from Paris! To me the biggest scam was to ask 1Euro at the Sacre Coeur's toilet.... What a disgrace...

I say no thanks to anyone who speaks to me for any reason. I think I’ve avoided a few of these purely by accident lol
