'The Wanderers' is a 1979 coming-of-age drama film directed by Philip Kaufman. Set in the Bronx, New York City, during the early 1960s, the film follows the lives of a group of teenage friends known as "The Wanderers" as they navigate the challenges of adolescence, love, and identity.

The film explores the trials and tribulations of these young men as they confront rival gangs, face family issues, and deal with the complexities of young love. It also delves into the evolving social and cultural landscape of the era, including the impact of rock 'n' roll music and the changing dynamics of their neighborhood.

The character Emilio was one hell of a fighter in this film. He took out several Ducky Boys in the brawl at the end even though he was 20-30 years older than they were. Unforgettable scene where he breaks off the wooden bench before the brawl so he can use it as a club.

Earland Van Lidth De Jeude (aka Terror) was not only an actor, he was an opera singer, a NCAA wrestler and a computer scientist who received his computer science and engineering degree from MIT. Despite his imposing stature, he was the nicest and kindest guy. Definitely too soon taken.

Ken Wahl was fantastic in "Wiseguy." I watch the repeats every chance I get. His career was cut short due to an accident. Sucks there are only four seasons of Wiseguy.

Of the three 1979 "gang" movies, my favorite has always been Walter Hill's "The Warriors, " with "The Wanderers" running a close second.
I've always been a big fan of director Walter Hill - The Warriors, Streets of Fire, 48 Hours, Another 48 Hours, Crossroads, Red Heat, Southern Comfort, Last Man Standing, Hard Times, The Getaway (remake), etc.

'The Wanders' is an underrated film. The first time I saw this film (I do believe) it was on the Arts and Entertainment Channel when it was a good channel. Sometime afterwards I rented the video (VHS) at a rental video store. I always thought it was the New York version of 'American Graffiti', but with a more serious storyline, and going towards the end of the film it almost brought me to tears because of the change that was just starting out on the music scene. Not that it's a bad thing, it's just the memories of that time period that I remember when I was a kid growing up in the 60's. Definitely one of my favorite films.

_The Wanderers_ will always be my favorite. Seen it for the first time in 1983 when my parents bought a video recorder. I remember seeing the trailer of _The Warriors_ at our Drive-in once when I was about 11 and it scared me. Tried to watch it a couple of times on video later on but couldn't get into it...
