Adobe Fresco Tutorial for Beginners: All About Layers

Layers in Adobe Fresco can seem overwhelming at first—but it's actually not as bad as it seems. They're also incredibly powerful and useful for creating your best possible work. In this jam-packed video, we're slicing through the layers of Adobe Fresco like a hot knife through butter—or an onion, because yep, we're sticking with that analogy (they're just layers all the way down, and yes, they can make you cry).

Whether you're a seasoned pixel pusher or a vector virtuoso, there's something here for you. I'll break down all SIX types of layers in Adobe Fresco, and yes, you heard that right—six! From pixel-based layers to vector layers like the Little Mermaid... uh that will make more sense after you watch the video... maybe...

👀 Expect to learn tricks for manipulating your layers to control the look of your images, discovering how picture layers can hang off your artboard without getting cut off, and why adjustment layers are like the Swiss Army knife for your digital art toolkit.

🔧 Plus, I'm tossing in some pro tips on using layer properties like blend modes and opacity to add that chef's kiss to your artworks. And because I love you guys, I'll also show you how to use adjustment layers to tweak your image without throwing a wrench into the works.

So, if you're ready to get a grip on Adobe Fresco's layers and elevate your digital drawing game, this video is your golden ticket.

Fresco just became free as part of my Photoshop sub. So I'm trying to learn about this app. Thanks for this useful tutorial.

Nioce. Very helpful. My top tip is holding the Touch Short cut and double tap the layer to quickly turn visibility on and off. Great video Chris!!

hi Chris, Is there a way to hide the reference image layer from time-lapse in Adobe Fresco? Procreate has this option, and since I'm new to Adobe Fresco, it would be great if I could do the same here? thanks <3

i found a need like in other tutorials, and is that it would be helpful the click arrow to be visible so we can see the movements and clicks your are doing precisely. as sometimes i get lost and have to go backwards many times to make sure where u are cliking at. hope many "youtuber digital teachers" read this so can follow it haha! thank u so much for your videos! ive got u as my fresco mentor now ;)

Thanks Chris! I've searched and searched - even IA - and can't find an answer. Is it possible to select a layer without selecting it via the layer thumbnail? In Photoshop, I can tap on a layer in the canvas and select it. I haven't found a way in Fresco to do that. I'm working with 9 million identical circles - each on its own layer - and want to just tap one to select it. No beans. What say you?

Is there a way to change brush size more quickly, where I can resize without having to open the brush menu and clicking on size button before I can adjust?

What is the difference between clipping mask and locking the transparency? They seem like they do the same but 1 is just for pixel layers. Thanks ahead of time
