I remember calling the operator and just chitchatting when I was younger 😂. Then as I got older it was an automatic message and it wasn’t as fun.

Anybody remember Moviephone? Lol I love confusing my kids by randomly saying "Thank you for calling Moviephone brought to by ..." and doing my best to copy the voice.

I remember calling the sex lines with my friends off the payphones. We didn't know the numbers so you would try to spell out something like 1800 hot guys. And then there would be a very pg13 intro asking you for money and we'd all be 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭

*67 blocks your number when you call people. If you dial *67 before the number it will hide your caller ID from the person you are calling. This still works by the way

I remember as a kid in the 70s there was a phone number you could call to listen to a kids' story. I loved that!

Dose anyone remember how you got out of paying for a collect call? If basketball practice was done and you need to call to get picked up but you didn't want to pay a collect call.
Name- practice is over
They call and ask will you except a collect call from "practice is over, my mom would not except and hang up and come and get me.

Remember looking in the newspaper to see the movie theatre schedule? I feel like that persisted until the early 2000’s? Jeez Louise. And dial up shared w the phone line aol-cd-that-came in the mail internet? Ngl, I was genuinely confused by wth the meant by the internet when they first told me about it. I was 16 and they said “people will want to buy ‘virtual space’ and people will want to ‘visit’ these virtual spaces. I was like, what is the value of virtual space? Sounds lame. 😂

When my dad was a kid they had party lines. The whole neighborhood essentially shared one phone line and you would have to wait for someone to get off the phone at their house to make a call from yours. Anyone in the neighborhood could also pick up and hear your call so it wasn’t the best haha. They only had to dial 4 digits back in the day too, at least when my dad was a kid in the 60’s in Vermont.

The phone book had like 2 pages of these types of codes that did a variety of things.

In the UK, we still have something like that on landlines ...

The number is 1471, I still use this at work when a person who I need to pass the details of to another department or colleague but they don't know their phone number.

When it gives you the last number that phoned you, you also get 2 options...
Press 1 to return the call at a slightly higher than normal charge rate, or press 2 to block this number.
