How to Pin Curl a Set for the Night - Vintage Hair Tips

Ever wonder how to preserve your nice curled vintage set hairstyle from one day to the next? Well here is how I personally pin curl my hair to sleep on a set and have instantly curled hair in the morning again. Pin curl sets will preserve your curls while you shower or sleep and can even give you an entirely new style the next day depending on how you position the curls.

my Mama used to use bobby-pins for this instead of clips....she would wrap small sections of hair around the tip of her finger, then secure the curl onto her scalp with usually two bobby-pins criss-crossed....her hair always looked great!!!

Thank you so much for this. It's so reassuring to know that I am not the only woman who has to do this kind of thing to maintain her set. I envy the women who claim to just throw a scarf on their 'do and have it look just as fresh the next day. I'll have to try the standing curls one evening, I usually use a roller to help achieve the volume.

Idk if anybody said anything already, but those "painful clips" are for magnetic rollers. The smooth plastic kind. Not for sleeping on, for sets under a hood dryer.

This reminds me of a way more glamorous version of my childhood. When I was little and taking dance lessons, I would sleep on foam rollers when recital season came around. I have naturally (very!) curly hair, but my instructor wanted us all to have very uniform curls and styles, so it was a struggle to work around what Mother Nature intended.

I don't like heat tools on my hair. They kinda freak me out and the heat curls never stay long. so I do a wet set (well, more like "a little moist"- set) after washing my hair, about 2 times a week.
I just live with the gradually lessening curl, which becomes a soft romantic wave on day 3 because I am too darn lazy to invest 25 minutes every night rolling up my hair.
But it was super interesting nonetheless to see how you do a pincurl set and why you do it. Also, I think it was you who got me into sectioning my hair for pinning it up 😁
