DIY 4 Axis CNC Foam Cutter (Hot Wire)

I built a 4 axis CNC hot wire foam cutter. It uses a modified version of GRBL to run G-Code of any shape. I have been using it to cut out airfoils for RC planes.

very cool. im about to modify my first hot wire cutter i made out of mdf so its 6 inches apart. going to be a fuselage specific cutter using devfuse foam.

Great footage of it cutting to begin with. The one time tried cutting foam, the fumes were quite bad. Maybe I had too much current going into the wire.

i like this design better than using timing belts, Im building a full scale ultralight aircraft with foam core carbon fiber wings and really like your design, I need to have at least 4.5 to 5ft wing chord length to cut out full scale airfoil profile, Im sure I can take your design and make it 4.5 to 5ft travel in one axis and only need maybe 1.5 to 2ft in up down axis, is that the Z axis?
