The Ferrari Daytona SP3 is nothing like the Ferrari Daytona of the 70s, The new Ferrari Daytona SP3 is mid engine where as the 1970s Ferrari Daytona is Front engine. Design is way off. Ferrari Made a Mistake on this one.

If Ferrari call it a Daytona its a Daytona

The Daytona SP3 is inspired by the 330 P4 and 412P which took 1st and 2nd place in the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours. That's why it's called Daytona and not because Ferrari wanted to build an American racing car. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

The Daytona name is only homage to the ancient race course on the beach in Florida…

Ma'am, with all due respect, FERRARI CALLS IT A DAYTONA, AND THAT'S WHY THE WORLD WILL CALL IT DAYTONA.

Tell me you have NO CLUE about cars without telling me you have NO CLUE about cars.

This person knows nothing about the history of the naming behind this car. And I question whether this person truly knows and or cares about cars in general tbh

Dont know what Daytona name has to do with thic car being mid engine .Daytona is just a histroric name they use referring to their legendary race win in the 60-is (not sure which year exactly)

They made crazy looking sports/race car and named it to honor a famous racing win sounds pretty legit to me .

Perhaps you're associating the Daytona Name to the GT model from the 1970's. However, the SP3 Daytona also shares its name with the 330 Daytona P4 from 1967, which served also as inspiration for the SP3, and also had a mid-engine layout... You can tell that, instead, for me is a great naming for such a piece of art.

This car pays homage to the 1967 330 P3/4, a 330 P4 and a 412 P that took a 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 24 Hours Of Daytona. It has nothing to do with the 1968-1973 365GTB/4 road car. The Ferrari factory never officially name it the “Daytona” the press did.

She obviously made the statement since all Daytonas were front engine.

Ok, you're talking about the Ferrari 365 "Daytona"
GTB/4, GTS/4, GTC/4, GT4 2+2, and your right, but.... the reference to the Daytona is.... wait for it... the victory of the three Ferrari's at Daytona! in 1967. And in this case they had mid/rear engines 😉

So, you’re expecting a more updated retro look like Lamborghini did when they brought back the “Countach” moniker? That’s cool and all but I’d stick with this. It’s more an homage to the race than the car.

We have historians and we have designers.
Same name, different perspectives.
I appreciate those who commented about the history of the name. I also appreciate the reference to the classic Daytona design.
I'm the end, Ferrari still calls the shots when it comes to their cars. Anyone can object though. There's no right or wrong in naming.
I love this car too.

She’s right when it comes to the Daytona name. It’s like calling a Ford GT a Ford GT Le Mans just because it’s raced in the 24 before. It doesn’t make sense but Ferrari is notorious with doing it.
