About the recording:

This recording is part of a cassette tape of Philippine political songs from 1957 which is part of the Wilgus D.K. collection in the University of California Los Angeles Library.

About Magsaysay:

Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay from December 30, 1953, until his death in an aircraft disaster on March 17, 1957. An automobile mechanic by profession, Magsaysay was appointed military governor of Zambales after his outstanding service as a guerrilla leader during the Pacific War. He then served two terms as Liberal Party congressman for Zambales's at-large district before being appointed Secretary of National Defense by President Elpidio Quirino. He was elected president under the banner of the Nacionalista Party, defeating the re-electionist Quirino.

Additional Notes:

From those wondering, perhaps you are wondering. Didn't Magsaysay die in March 1957, months before the presidential elections in November? How is it then that Magsaysay had campaign jingles in 1957?

It is possible that throughout 1956-1957, Magsaysay was already preparing for re-election; hence, the influx of campaign paraphernalia such as jingles by 1957. This is further proven by another Magsaysay jingle in the same cassette tape which explicitly points out re-election. This song is perhaps one of those songs written in anticipation for Magsaysay's second presidential run, which was cut short by his sudden death in a plane crash.
