I love how he labeled the pencil "over priced" like just owning it 😂

My brother is a Zimmermann (≈Framer) and I‘ve worked with him since I was 14 and I can assure you I‘ve never taken a handsaw for such notches on the stair, I would‘ve most likely used one huge mafell circular saw (any brand will do the trick, but go huge in size there is no competition and they have unimaginable amounts of power), one clamp, something like a speed square (we use mostly different square angles like „Schlosserwinkel“ but It‘s doing the same job), ~40mm Chisels, wooden mallets and regular carpenters pencils. I would‘ve marked with just a regular carpenter pencil and use a traditional sign for which side of the line to go to („Abbundzeichen“), often joinery is better cut twice instead of trying to measure perfectly, so when you‘re unexperienced just cut it short the first time. We try to use as much power tools as possible as they safe much time. I‘ve cut quite some joints with nothing but a „Meterstab“ (most widespread measurung device amongst blue collars in Germany), different sizes of circular saws, chisel, mallet and a carpenter pencil. But labour is expensive and metal fasteeners like screws, post bases etc. are used more widespread nowadays. Anyways thanks for reading, I love exchanging about how we make things, so if you are interested in anything, let me know. There‘s quite few german zimmerer that make content compared to US, so it‘s hard to know.
Greetings from bavaria ❤

I’m a timber framer from MT, we absolutely use slicks all the time.

You’re my favourite woodworker. I normally like watching reclaimed skateboard works, but your aura makes you my favourite to watch

I choke on my coffee when he said Gladys.

"Muh Mitts!" The best tools a man has.

Timber framing takes remarkably few tools to do. I built an English Oak frame extension on my house and the only addition over my normal workshop tools, was a chain morticer. Cutting hundreds of mortices with a drill and chisels gets “old” very quickly…

Hmmm.... I've been building log homes and timberframe structures since 1986. My slick is extremely useful for certain tasks, like haunches, because it allows me to get a flat surface. Maybe not the best tool for your stringer, but don't throw it out just yet. Get a glass plate with 3M abrasive film to sharpen it, and flatten the back completely before you try to put an edge on it. Mine will shave leg hair....

Every time I see people complain about Festool prices, I just show them Mafell.

Those mitts are the best tools you got. Take care of them, don't use cheap tools with them. You only get on pair your entire life
