As a Bangladeshi, I have to admit that the government has failed to diversify the export sector. It is too much reliant on a single sector. There is a lack of entrepreneurship. Most tech students flock to foreign countries for higher education and don't return. There is also rampant corruption and political instability which hinder the nation's progress. The recent democratic backsliding will worsen the situation. 😢

In the Philippines
if a garment/textiles says it was *Made in Bangladesh* we consider it as a good quality shirt.

nice explanation by Econ. its really interesting that Bangladesh has come so far based on only single rmg sector. as a Bangladeshi i can confirm that starting business in Bangladesh is so complex and time consuming because of corruption, poor bureaucracy. plus we have a government that has been ruling the country for the last 15 years, although this ensured political stability but the government's poor policies, corruption, money laundering has hampered the economy.

I've never been to Bangladesh, but I had a few Bangladeshi friends. Good chaps, all of them.

Bangladesh's inflation rate has been higher than their GDP growth rate, which is not feasible for the middle-class Bangladeshi population.

As a Bangladeshi Hindu,
The Bengal sultanate was the period when Bangla was at it's peak.
People of all religions lived with harmony ( The proof being medieval mosques which has hindu and Buddhist terracotta )
During that time Bangla was the richest province in the world.

The biggest threat to bangladesh is the authoritarian leadership, which will only increase corruption and inefficiency.

Thanks Econ for covering the economy of one of the most important countries in South Asia, one which gets limited international news coverage. Your contribution is highly appreciated.

Bengal, before the British, was one of the richest regions of the world! Then the British came and looted everything.

Another thing about Bangladesh is the rise in product prices. Even after all this growth, it's sad to see everyday product prices rising while salaries stay the same. At this point, as a Bangladeshi I'm questioning all this growth.

from being socially and economically destroyed by Pakistan to beating Pakistan in the respective sector Bangladeshi brothers and sisters has came a long way ahead of it's former coloniser, love to see that! despite many differences ideologically from India we would love to have them as competitors rather than mindless hate and being an enemy.
still a far way to go for both bangladesh and India in every sector and hope that we all do make it .

As a Bangladeshi, I must say that corruption must be stopped to grow.
