You are cordially invited to the wedding dress episode of “Around the World.” Great Big Story senior producer Beryl Shereshewsky talks to seven dressmakers in seven countries to learn about the special dresses they make for brides in their communities. The craftsmanship, tradition and love that goes into these gorgeous creations is truly amazing. Among the dresses featured: an elaborately beaded Native American southern Cheyenne buckskin dress from Oklahoma; a kente dress handwoven in red, yellow and green, the national colors of Ghana; and in Sweden, a traditional black taffeta folk wedding dress known as a vanga dress.

There's gotta be someone out there who has a collection of every wedding dress from every country.

The Indonesian woman wearing that headpiece AND walking in sky high heels? Iconic.

Oh, a fact about the Oklahoma segment: the tassles represent the person's family members and ancestors so when you move and dance, the tassles sway and move too... It means you dance with your ancestors and family.

Let's be honest here, no matter what culture the wedding dress is from, it's always so beautiful 😭😭

Why is nobody talking about the Indonesian dress? She looks like a QUEEN

Idk but when Kenneth said the colors represent the different ppl in the world, I started crying. Native American culture deserves a 100× more respect and representation than it gets in America.

I'm so glad they chose the indigenous community for the United States! Talk about true representation 👌👌

I love how the Native American girl had a little mask to go with her dress, that's such an adorable yet fitting idea these days!

I love what the Ghana dressmaker said about marriage representing dignity.
It’s the truth. You honor each other and show the world this is my partner we are one mind and body. It’s so beautiful to see a strong couple together in this world.

I'm glad you chose England as the country to represent a white dress because the tradition of wearing a white dress on your wedding day started in England when Queen Victoria wore white to her wedding

As someone who loves European folk costume styles, I wish they would be brought back into present wedding attire. They're all so diverse and beautiful... especially those from Russia.

The fact is that, whatever may be the culture, the wedding dresses are the most beautiful ones.

All these dresses are very different, but there are two things they ALL have in common 1) They are SO beautiful and 2) They are made with so much care and pride! These artists put so much hard work into every detail to make every dress perfect and something the bride will feel like an absolute queen in.
