Agree with this advice. I've had gut mains break on me where the poly cross was tied to it.

Thanks for your input and the great video! As a long time tennis player who is brand new to stringing, do you know approximately how much more damaging it is to tie off poly onto gut? Federer is a huge string breaker (as are most of the pros) and I'm wondering about how much more life strings get when tying poly on poly instead of poly on gut. Especially since I'm using a head racquet 😂

I have 4 racquets all with a NG / poly hybrid, 2 of my racquets are the Yonex Vcore 98 305, I have poly tied on gut on all of them, He’s a recommended stringer with a and I quote £10 grand machine, Should I be asking questions?

I will never use the 6H on these particlar Vcore (Red) series. The grooves makes the knot ends slanted and ugly.

Unless the racquet is installed with fresh grommets, I will still string poly tied on the gut. It is not nice to enlarge the grommets hole to make a new tie off area. I try to make less wrinkled grommets on the racquet as much as possible. If the customer brings the racquet to another stringer. The stringer might suggest that you aren't an experience stringer cuz you cannot find the obvious tie off area and hand to awl one out. It is also skill demanding how to tie a poly on the gut tightly without choking the gut too much.

You’re being just a tad bit too sensitive lol. It’s a racquet and it’s meant to be used, just have fun and enjoy the sport.

I think if you tie off a cross onto another cross, it is putting torsion on the weak part of the hoop, especially if you are way to the center. Yonex may have done some strengthening of the frame at the 3rd cross to make that tie-off. It it's set up that way, great... otherwise I'd try to find a way to tie off to a cross closer to the throat than the head. Especially because it looks like that is a starting knot, and so you were pulling tension on the frame, with no support from the main (that happens in a typical cross-tied-to-main set up).

Would the same apply to multi instead of natural gut?

Never ever ever tie poly onto gut... it's a no brainer. Been using this same tie system for years.
