Thank you for joining us for this episode of Beverly-Hanks TV, helping you Live the Life You Choose in Western North Carolina. Real estate is about so much more than four walls and a roof. It's about how community really lives.

Asheville has won glowing accolades many times over now for its food and drink scene. And while those awards are given for traditional restaurants, there's a whole other side to the food scene here. Underground supper clubs, like the Blind Pig, lure adventurous eaters to surprise locations, like this one here at Claxton Farm, where they can taste chef's creations with their wildest, out-of-the-box food ideas.

“Well, you know Asheville has always been a tourist destination,” says Michael Moore, creator of the Blind Pig Supper Club of Asheville. “And with that comes great food, of course. And there's just a very rich sense of community here in Asheville, and it has been. It's probably one of the more rich in the state, I believe. There are people here that are very passionate about their craft, as far as growing vegetables or raising an animal, and that passion coincides into the kitchen, as well. So, when you have that passion and that community support, it just makes for the perfect environment for something like the Blind Pig.”

“Our venues are sometimes off the map,” says Michael Moore. “You find the location out 24 hours, or just a bit more than that prior to the event. You don't know where you're going, or what's on the menu, until you arrive there. We've done dinners at local farms, we've done dinners in art galleries, we've done dinners in businesses, bakeries, basements. Probably the magic of it is where you would at least likely to expect great food and an experience, and then we create that restaurant for the night.”

“We try to keep it unique so each experience is one of a kind, and you'll never have that one twice,” says Darlene Moore, creator of the Blind Pig Supper Club of Asheville.

“We're here tonight at Claxton Farms in Weaverville, North Carolina,” says Michael Moore. “Our event tonight is with the Southern Foodways Alliance. It's a charity fundraiser for the National Southern Foodways Alliance. What they do in their mission is preserving the culture of Southern food, and the community, and everyone that comes with that.”

“What we wanted to do is we wanted to take and focus on the foods of this area, this region, which are very special and very historic. A lot of food ingredients here are common in Appalachian cuisine, and this is grandmother's food. These are old recipes, this is food cooked over a fire tonight. This is food that coincides with the people and the culture here of Appalachia, and show the chefs and these farmers and these food producers of this region, this event. So, it's specific to Southern Appalachia. It's our Southern cuisine here in Southern Appalachia, so we're very excited about tonight,” says Michael Moore.
