Brompton Bikepacking: The Waterford Greenway in Ireland

Показать описание
Bikepacking the Waterford Greenway in Ireland on a Brompton Bike. The Waterford Greenway is a 46km route meandering alongside a disused railway track. This is Irelands longest Greenway and is free of cars and allows for very safe cycling. The Greenway commences in Waterford City and finishes in Dungarvan - passing 11 bridges, 3 viaducts and a 400m tunnel along the way. The track is clearly marked along the way outlining the distance from the start of the track at regular intervals. Most people complete this cycle as a day trip but I decided to make the most of the adventure and brought my tent to camp at a beach near Dungarvan (Ballinacourty Bay Beach).

Camping Gear Used:
Tent - MSR Access 2
Mattress - Thermarest Neonair Xtherm
Sleeping Bag - Rab Neutrino 600

Camera Gear:

DJI Mini 2 Drone

Music: Epidemic Sound

Lens Flare 1 - Peter Sandberg

While it sucks that some disused railways are being turned into greenways when the towns on it could probably do with a rail connection (looking at you Youghal and New Ross), it at least they preserve the alignment and some of the railway heritage. It is cool that this line is also now a heritage railway though because that means the railway isn’t completely gone, even if it’s smaller than the original line.

Hi Miriam! Oh what a super film, and a lovely adventure. Such a nice dinner! I saw that oil go trickling in, and wondered what you were going to rustle up..! Egg for breakfast too! And masses of gorgeous landscape shots. I love how you show that a trip like this can be so simple and easy, and so enjoyable. Best wishes!

I generally don´t watch your films in order and I eek them out so that I can savour them for longer times. They truly are a pure joy to watch and the music always beautiful and suits the atmosphere. Thank you Miriam.

I have just changed my bike to a Danish brand Velorbis, it is an easy to get onto bike and it´s design harks back to the old shop delivery bikes, nice high up handlebars, low seating and small front wheel larger back wheel easy to get on to single speed with coaster rear brake so about as simple as it gets.

I am sixty at the end of the year and the curse of the Donald's has finely hit me and forced me into early retirement, Osteo and Rheumatoid arthritis of the spine and shoulders, it is hard to walk these days though I do make myself and so this type of bike with the wonderful brooks saddle which my friends are always surprised to hear is very very comfortable is ideal as it makes me peddle at a regular cadence and when the hill is too steep I simple walk with the support of the handlebars up the hill.
I am fortunate to live within minutes of the Danube Cycle Path which runs from the Black Sea to Germany. I am about a quarter of the way on the Vienna to Tulln section which is beautiful. gentle gradients and well tarmacked it is a joy to ride and good exercise.

I count myself lucky that for me this is late onset so now I am blessed with the memories of the various pilgrim trails in Europe once walked and mountains climbed in my years in Canada and other wild places from desert to prairie and even a brief stint with the British Antarctic Survey at the South Pole walked and cycled, those memories are forever. Nature is our true home, our North Star, our calm that weathers any storm .

Watching your videos is a balm, thank you.
Ian.

That bridge in Kilmacthomas has stunning views, the river flowing through Kilmac on one side, and horses grazing in green fields on the other side, brings peace to one's soul.

I have come to your channel a tad late, and subscribe a couple of weeks ago. I caught one where you were saying about not being good at the commentary. I disagree.

I have just spent the last few minutes in a place of total calm!

the combination of the picture quality, the scenery, the music and your vocal tone has been so relaxing. A full package of serenity and peacefulness.

Thank you so much for that.

A wonderful film, thoroughly enjoyed it. It made me quite homesick, back in the 1950s, we always took our summer holidays at Clonea. I haven't been back for a few years now and your film has made quite sure I'll be heading for the Greenway. Thank you again for a lovey video.

I just love this about YouTube, I’ve been thinking of doing these greenways with the family for some years, whatever it is you can usually find someone on here has gone to the trouble of showing you what it’s like and that it’s worth it, and this time that’s you. Maybe this year I’ll get to this. 🙏 thank you for this lovely little guide along the Waterford greenway.
