Learn how to calibrate the Roland VH10 Hi-Hat Pad that is supplied with the Roland TD17-KVX Electric Drum Kit.

It is important to calibrate the pad when you first set up your Roland TD17-KVX electric drum kit, and also each time you move the kit.

It only takes a minute or two to calibrate the Vh-10 pad, and it can a make a world of difference to the accuracy of the opening and closing of the hi-hat.

To the point, no-nonsense explanation in under 2 minutes. This is so refreshing considering that a lot of content creators make +10 minutes videos to explain one button. Thanks!

4 years later and you're still helping. Thank you

After playing 3 or 4 gigs I noticed this issue...had to REALLY press the HH pedal down HARD to get the closed hats effect...thought I had damaged it somehow. This vid is awesomely simple and very much appreciated! TYVM!

Why can't more people make how-to videos like this? Informative, and right to-the-point. Thank you!!

I’ve had my TD 17 KVX kit for about three years now. Just started having problems with the hi-hat. Took the bottom sensor apart figuring something had got loose inside. Didn’t see anything obvious so I put everything back together. Scratched my head and figured I’d give YouTube a shot. Yours was the first video that popped up. Bam! Problem solved! Quick and to the point. Thank you so much for keeping it simple.

Perfect explanation, thanks! I didn't realize the calibration was done with the "spinney, wheel-ey thing".

This is actually the most helpful video I've ever seen. My HiHat wouldn't work properly and I was so frustrated but now it works perfectly - Thank you

thx dave, this saved me time. btw, folks...as you may or may not know, the bell on the td-17's CY-13 ride isn't loud. quick fix: if ya got an old pd-7 pad laying around...attach it to the td-17 drum rack near the ride, connect the pd-7's cable to the aux connection on the module and then into a closely attached pd-7's connection (place the pad just over and next to the CY-13's bell).

go to "pad settings" and choose "mainly bell ride", adjust the parameters and viola! It's a lower pitched bell than the CY-13's bell, but it is subject to much greater sensitivity and you won't have to beat the tar out of it to hear it. It's a workaround and easier than the "bell fix" method of peeling off the CY-13's rubber skin, etc. as seen on youtube. now you can have two for the price of an old pad.

That REALLY helped! I was initially frustrated when the hi-hat would not play an "open" sound unless my foot was practically off the pedal. I didn't really understand the calibration instructions in the Roland manual, but this video explains it all very clearly. My hi-hat plays MUCH better now! Thank you!

This is great. Much better than reading the instructions. I will read the instructions later, but following these videos was so easy to follow

Vidéos like this make youtube indispensable ! I've just finished setting up my son's new kit, the manual says to calibrate the HH but doesn't explain about the spinny thing. Thank you for the clear instructions!

David, you are DA MAN! This video solved one of my biggest frustration with the VAD-306 hihat!

I thought I broke mine, and the manual was zero help. Then I found this video. Awesome info...thanks so much!!!

Once again, David clarifies the somewhat poorly-written manual that, at one point, tells you to "wrap a cable around a cable."

Thank you again, sir! I'm just starting with drums and figured this set would be a fun way to learn. Your guidance is much appreciated.

I bought the VAD306 last September and was unhappy with the hi hat until I found the spinny thing. I sure wish I was more inclined to read instruction manuals and that I'd seen this video!

Holy shit I can’t believe how much better my hi hats are now. Had no idea I needed to do this. I thought there was something wrong with mine lol. Thank you so much!

I finally took the plunge and purchased this kit. I will be using my Jacques Capelle hi-hat stand with my Camco Tama foot pedal from my Sonor 5 piece vintage 1980 acoustic set. Just waiting on my dual beater to arrive. Super excited about playing all hours of the day and night without disturbing any of my neighbors.
