Transmasculine TEDx speaker Enea Venegoni shares the surprising challenges of transgender people with having to navigate a healthcare system that is designed to treat heterosexual cisgender patients. Doctors, nurses, and medical systems are neither trained nor used to treating trans patients and this leads to avoidable pain and suffering.

The healthcare they need is mental healthcare. Trying to fix their problem with surgeries and pills to block hormones is just making it worse.

It’s hard because healthcare is suited to someone’s anatomy and physiology and not only is the “bottom” surgery still wildly experimental and mental health being ignored, but it’s ultimately a battle between being socially correct or “cancelled”. The trans community want to go to their new gender doctors when that’s not what they have going on biologically and these facts are being ignored.

This comment section is so much more sane than I expected.

Since anyone can do a Ted talk so I'm going to do mine which will be " why people with mental health are jealous of the opposite gender don't get health mental psychological treatment To show that they are being silly?" It's going to be much more interesting than this victimization of the disappointment of reality that they don't want to accept!

They get the same healthcare as everyone else. What they want is doctors to give them medically unnecessary drug treatments and hormones replacements, and for insurance to cover their cosmetic surgery.

Hard to be accepted if you don‘t accept yourself.

I had seen a shortfilm in India where transgenders are recognized not others of LGBTQA spectrum. They are identified but stil no healthcare!!! There should be healthcare for all. It should be ok for partner to buy insurance for their same gender partner. It should be ok for them to sign their medical papers! Simple step starts from asking them if they want to be attnded by male or female healthcare professionals.

Because there aren't enough categories on medical forms so they don't get past the first lines?

Maybe because trans people choose to take unnecessary medication and hormonal treatments which will eventually make them very very sick? The long term effects we will learn about in the future won’t be surprising.

It's still hard for women to get good healthcare! Can't imagine exponential challenges of trans.

It's not that hard, they can just go to any clinic and get treatments,

Might have to do with the fact that self mutilation is a pre-existing condition 😂

why train every nurse and doctor to help a few individuals who chose to disfigure themselves in the first place

If genetalia doesn’t make you a man or woman, then why does cutting off body parts?
