One of the best Exotics of all time, Ice Breaker, is back in the game. We cleared Vesper's Host, then took it into both PvE and PvP to see how it performed.

IceBreaker has always been appropriately named.

D1 was more shooter than space magic, and alot of the guns had names and lore reflecting that. In older military spec ops squads (no idea if it's still said today), snipers would start off alot of engagements you would get into. That first shot was known as the icebreaker, like a joke to break the ice at a party that hasn't popped off yet. It is aptly named.

Definitely not a DPS exotic, but probably one of the most fun exotics and something Bungie really needed to do, which was Exotics that synergise with OTHER elements besides their own.
Most Exotics are just "Oh youre on Void, use this Void exotic" and visa versa, only exception being Kinetic.
But having a Solar be primarily useful on Stasis is good stuff man, because it opens up that Kinetic slot to use a Stasis Primary or Special too.

The reserve mods not working makes sense, because it looks like Icebreaker has a max of 0 in reserves. All the ammo goes into the mag.

A neat thing with Icebreaker is that you can casually get max ammo via Icebreaker being stowed, then swap it to a Cloudstrike and have almost no-loss to ammo. It's insane as a swap weapon for ammo top off.

I do kinda wish it came out during the 10th anniversary (I mean, it's promoted there), and this dungeon had a DSC exotic themed weapon, but maybe that's just me.

For me, icebreaker will always be that cool gimmick weapon that I loved back in d1. But for dps I’ll always just use whisper or still hunt

This seems like it'd be great for certain Prismatic builds since shattering a Frozen target causes an Ignition, meaning the Facet of Ruin could pull double duty on one gun assuming you can get those freeze procs, which can be easy with something like Bleak Watcher (especially with the Warlock build Cross shared earlier) or certain Chill Clip weapons.

I’m assuming for Hunter with catalyst. Throwing silence and squall during DPS you can self regen ammo and ignite just using icebreaker. Sounds mighty

For DPS, probably meant to be treated as a rotational swap where you only use it when the boss is frozen for crit then instantly swap back to heavy

Genuinely one of the most enjoyable exotics to use next to conditional, being able to use it as a giga buffed railgun slug shotgun with auto loading feels so good

The catty is perfect bc it simultaneously makes it more sustainable in a dps phase and makes it able to generate its own ammo

Pair icebreaker with a lead from gold special weapon that can put on the weapon perk Heavy Ammo Finder Enhancement and you can easily run double specials.

I remember back in D1 Vault of Glass, we'd need at least one person with Ice Breaker hanging back to shoot the Oracles.

@aztecross try this with the new warlock chest piece on stasis. It was MADE for this gun. I tried dmg testing with it and it’s nuts.

1. Use the tonic that increases shatter damage
2. Make sure to have all the artifact mods that boost stasis crystals.
3. Throw stasis turret on top of boss
4. Hit headshots.

It actually surprised me with how much dps per shot it was hitting. I tried it on the new dungeon boss (on normal difficulty) and in 1 dmg phase I did about 1.45mil damage. A total of 13 shots and I didn’t use my heavy when I could have. There was no weaken debuff, just stasis.

Edit: Make sure to have Whisper Of Shards and Fissures. I did also use torment but it can be swapped out if you have 100 discipline if you want too.
