In fact, everyone assigned by the President to every current position should report their departments activity to the President! They do their job independently of the White House, but they must keep the President appraised of the jobs they are doing. Perhaps the President needs one more desk in the Administration . . . the Office of Dissemination of Information to the President which will take the reports of the differing departments to be reported directly to the President to insure the White House is getting all the information they are doing.
