Kokkari Windsurfing 2014

Kokkari Windsurfing 2014 is an experimental film, created by us, Michalis Catinas and Pavlos Ioannidis, mostly as a study on filmography. At the time of shooting our filming experience was at least elementary, with zero budget and beginner grade equipment.

Kokkari windsurfing was certainly fun to make and surely very educational for both the creators of Reeldrone. The exercise taught us valuable lessons, not only on the hardware and artistic side of things, but also on the way to interact with the actors, which was surprisingly difficult. (Looking at you Trevor)
Filming took place on Samos Island of Greece and specifically on the gorgeous (and very windy) village of Kokkari.
Samos Windsurfing Center is located there, with a slew of kit selection, ranging from wave, to freewave, freeride and freestyle, up to Slalom and even Formula equipment. Amazingly, Kokkari can deliver wind and waves during the year to please all the above disciplines and the most demanding sailors.

The film was shot mostly on Gopro hero 2 and 3+ and my Galaxy S4. Some shots were made in 1080p where other in 2K or even in 480p, for that dramatic super slow motion result, in 240 fps. No real sound was used, as there were no proper audio equipment available at the time. You can hear the real sound during the outtakes, which was pretty much shit...
The drones used, were a custom made quadrocopter and a custom tricopter, personally build and flown by Pavlos.

Editing and special effects programs used are Adobe's Premiere and After effects. Total footage recorded was an estimate of 40 hours long, trimming it down to 4 hours of useful shots and eventually 25 minutes of the best bits edited.
