I have albinism. So many say "oh they are so pretty." or something of that nature. In my case i am not happy about these type of comments. To me it is the same as someone looking at an animal and saying "oh IT is so cute." I feel that statements like these are actually not helpful because they objectify our condition and make us even more of a "thing" to be gawked at. If all these people are so enthralled by us and our looks, then where are they at when crowds of people are bullying and attacking us just for being different" I know many do not actually intend on objectifying us even more and are just saying that they have no problem with us and like our differences, but saying this would be and is very different than saying "oh they are so pretty." I was born in the U.S. and have lived here all my life. I feel i have been discriminated against more than almost anyone because of my condition. School systems don't want to help with visually impaired kids. Other kids are taught by other children and adults that we are "weird" and are to be avoided. Jobs don't want to have to make special arrangements for visually impaired people like us because it is "too costly" for them. even though the law say they can not discriminate again st the handicapped .... they find ways around it. I had friends in school who were of color and their parents told them not to let me touch them because i would "leave marks on their dark skin". Some of them even believed that because their parents insisted it was true and they would regret "chancing it". I have gotten so much crap over my life by people of every color because i am too white. Where is all this tolerance and love for us that everyone claims to have these days?

I was friends with a girl at camp who was albino. She had gotten made fun of all the time. People often called her vampire and Casper and other mean names. I always stuck up for her but the mean kids would always come after me. But you know what, it was worth it.

My uncle is Albino even though he's full black. This was very helpful and he still looks handsome with his unique features regardless what people say 😌

In my family we are 3 albinos. Me and my 2 little brothers. When I was young, in my school they insult me because I was different. I want to say to all albinos you are the prettiest person just love yourself and don't listen to the others 💕

I'm an albino! But my mom made me dye my hair since i was 3rd grade, because kids at school looked at me strange and called me names! ;( so now i'm still dying my hair ..dark or light blonde, also my eyebrows..and to be honest nobody looks at me as weird as before and nobody knows i'm an albino, they think i'm just a blonde, so my life is better...even tho it's a pain in the ass to dye my hair every single month, and i've heard that its bad for the hair too... so thats y i started using dyes without ammonia.. i've never met another albino person, i've just seen in the bus or at the subway..but i'd really love to meet one! It'd be nice to be the same as somebody else, not just the one in a million!

I have a friend who is an albino. But lots of people get bullied for it but she doesn't. She actually has a lot of friends and a best friend. She has blue eyes with blonde hair (including eyebrows, eyelashes etc)and very pale skin. Her skin is really sensitive to the sun and whenever we go to recess she has to put on sunscreen. She is legally blind and has rapid eye movement and has to have things blown up for her. She is very comfortable talking about her condition so I asked if she felt her eyes rapidly moving like that and she said no. She plays a instrument with me which is the cello and she plays really good despite being legally blind. Her ethnicity is African American and at first I had no idea something like this existed until she told me what her conditions where and I researched more about it. It's actually really interesting to learn about albinism and being the 11 year old girl I am it inspires me to be a Pediatric Endocrinologist😊.

Some time ago you had a video about how emotional pain was perceived in the same way as physical pain by the brain. Knowing that one can get used to pain and thus "feel" less pain, this made me wonder the following:
"If physical pain is perceived the same way as emotional pain by the brain, can emotional pain increase your physical pain threshold?"

I'm from South East Asia. I had an elementary classmate and she's albino. I was really fascinated with her physical features, she was very pretty.

Seeing a albino person or an animal is like finding a shiny pokemon.
