Economic Upturn | Norland - Part 5 (Crusader Kings Meets Rimworld - Early Access)

Norland continues and we try to improve the somewhat woeful economy of CupboardVale, because we need that lovely shiny money to buy many nice things!

Things like food. Food is somewhat scarce and the people are hungry, including our nobles who weirdly don't seem to want to eat despite being almost starving.

Also we need to buy things like weapons and armour, because they are required to boost our army value so people will join our alliance!

Also we need to buy magic holy ring things, because they're important to the Nobles.

However all this requires money, so we try to get the economy going by selling some beer and hops and rye, plus we get our fields sorted out so there's a lot of produce to be harvested.

Also there's the arrival of another child, we welcome a new Noble and Betty becomes elderly...

The Empire has fallen, leaving in its place multiple successor kingdoms. The lords and ladies of these petty kingdoms squabble for control and influence – whether with cloak and dagger or sword and shield, families feud amongst themselves and against each other as greater threats cast a shadow across the land. Famines wreak havoc on the lives of the peasantry, warfare and disunity threaten the social order, noble families fall to decadence and hedonism, and beyond the borders of the old Empire, great armies of pillage and destruction form under the banners of invader-kings.

In these uncertain times, you must lead your small kingdom to greatness – and the members of your noble family to survival – in this medieval colony sim focussed on generating stories of great valor and vile treachery.

The common folk of Norland are the backbone of any kingdom, serving their noble lords on the battlefield and around the city with deference and loyalty… until their bellies become empty or the beer runs dry. With different backgrounds, needs, and thoughts of their own, the peasants are difficult to please and easily manipulated into rebellion, crime, and controversy – will you address their complaints as a benevolent lord or answer them with the executioner’s ax?

Norland is set in a rich world with a vibrant past – its inhabitants form a tapestry of different cultural backgrounds with checkered relations, and the power vacuum left in the wake of the Empire’s collapse has given rise to uncertain times. In the distance, an Unholy Horde grows ever stronger, pillaging and burning all in its path, while elsewhere the Church of Saint Sophia uses faith to maintain an iron grip on vast resources.

Through a multitude of scenarios to choose from and a plethora of options that define your nobles and the world around you, Norland allows you to build a society and tell a unique story of any kind – warmongers with penal legions fighting for their freedom, highly educated religious zealots trying to spread the faith, wealthy multicultural idealists hoarding tomes of knowledge, treacherous spymasters plotting assassination and intrigue… what tale will you tell?

So, I don't think any soldiers are actually assigned to your watch. The cut throat is going in and out of your nobles houses. Maybe that is where the missing rings or shield went?

24:22 the cost of hiring a free Lord depends on the persuasion skill of the Person that hires her, in this case it clearly states that it cost 7 rings. They are kept with the church and will be given to Udelka After the contract expires. And I guess the other shields and rings are Stolen by the Cutthrout. Maybe a prison or scaffold would help?

Ooh! Your peasants are almost twice as rich as your warriors!

Where the names of the people there are icons for food to have sex to sleep etc click on the icons for food to eat, the sleep icon to sleep etc to make them do things they might not automate. Loving the series so far :D <3

I think the criminals are stealing the armour and the shield.

When you hired Udelka your rings went from 14 to 7.

Maybe the shield and the armour was stolen by the vagabonds 🤔
Also, can we give back to the trader the people we've hired in the beginning of the game to lower the taxes?

Congrats on getting your finances in order 🥳 However, I think you're struggling because of a lack of wood - so you should cancel the temple for now + upgrade the lumber-camps + build another one?

Remember that you're going to be flooded with immigrants, and they need somewhere to work (and live), which means even more need for wood (and your fields need wood every whatever days).

Your nobles were starving because you made 30 food (or whatever) pr day for 40 (or whatever) people - again because of a lack of wood (i.e fields not being completed), but that seems to be on track now :) As long as you're able to keep up with the flood of immigrants

You're also very generous with your peasants, a salary that covers both flour and beer every day (which caused the trading agreement to fail one day). They need food every day, but alcohol every 2 (or 3) days. So 30 peasants and 30 produced beer = 0 bear for the trade agreement (well, not sure if they will buy alcohol every day or just every two days)

This game is baffling. The armours you buy keep disappearing and reappearing. Maybe they get stolen? But i dont think 'vagabonds' are 'criminals'...

Anyway, I like the idea of sending Queen Betty do as much fighting as possible while she still can. Beware, pesky bandits!

This game seems to need a huge amount of development. Why are the nobles hungry? Where did the shield go? Why are the taxes collected every day and why is it so much every time? They gave a lot of money at the beginning to set up the town, which seems to me to be an admission that the game's money mechanics are ridiculous
