I spent 3 months researching camera brands to finally purchase my first good camera. the pressure we put on ourselves for feeling like we have to constantly be getting newer and better hardware is pretty ridiculous when you think about it as the gear isnt at all important in comparison to the content you want to film.

Nikon d3100 Nikon D7000 and I'm currently using Samsung NX500. I love my D7000 but the focusing sucks. The Samsung NX500 shoots 4k. But you have to convert it over to 4k. 5 minutes of footage can take almost an hour to convert to 4k. it's true about what your saying.

What I would personally love is how you go about your focusing when you have a moving subject, where either you move or the subject move closer/further away.

I agree with your stance on this topic, however, what camera body would you suggest to provide the sharpest image in lieu of the other contributing factors (i.e. the lens, exposure, etc.)? I am asking for myself - being an independent filmmaker with an emphasis on the story development - because I LOVE to tell stories and WELL-DEVELOPED stories and I believe that a pivotal factor for a story can be the preciseness of a sharp, detailed picture. I know you have mentioned that you favor the Lumix GH4 or GH5, but please let me know your thoughts objectively. Thank you for the opportunity!

Had a 70D and was stagnant. Upgraded to a GH5, showed some slowmo footage from inside a random luxury furniture store (so basically the slowmo and the subject did all the work, not me!) and was hired on the spot to do video/editing for a big company in nyc. Gear matters depending on what you're doing. It might not matter that much for narrative films, but gear counts a lot for many other genres of film.
