Why Don't BMW Drivers Use Turn Signals?

Everyone has seen those hilarious BMW driver memes that demonstrate their forgetfulness when it comes to turn signals. But the fact is, it's more than a stereotype. There is a legitimate mechanical reason as to why BMW drivers never use their indicators (and it's not because of low blinker fluid).

If you ever feel useless, just remember that somebody's job is to install turn signals at BMW

It is simple really,
Bmw drivers tailgate, use high beams, use the horn often, flip off people and don't use indicators just because they don't give a shit and want to keep standards like they should be on this brand.

You can push it down halfway to blink 3 times, which is super convenient when going 2x the speed limit and overtaking every other car on the road. If you push it down all the way, it blinks until it's pushed down in the same direction halfway, or a turn is completed. So it works ok in some turns, but not in all turns, so never use a turn signal when turning.

To recap: Use 3x blinkers when speeding and overtaking to express your dominance. Don't use blinkers in any other situation.


No but srsly, it's actually really good once you get used to it. After few weeks normal turn signals seem a lot of work when compared to this.

I work at an auto auction and hence sometimes drive BMWs. Those are definitely the stupidest turn signals I've ever seen. Ford pickup trucks have similarly idiotic turn signals as well, except they are even worse, because to cancel them, instead of pushing it in the same direction again as with the BMW, you have to push it slightly in the opposite direction (but not too much or it will activate the opposite signal instead). I must have looked like a total idiot blinking all over the place with the truck I was driving the first time I encountered this.

Also, interestingly enough, most of the BMW drivers in my area use their turn signals. The people I've encountered who are least likely to use them generally drive big pickup trucks, sports cars, police cars (unfortunately), or heavily modified cars.

It doesn't sound like a complicated system at all. This is how turn signals work in all cars. The only difference is how you cancel the signal. Which is just a matter of getting used to it. The 3-blink tap works exactly the same way on other cars.

I will not be sorry when I run into a BMW driver because they didn't take the time to learn how to use their car. Thank god for dash cams, it will save me in my future accident with a BMW.

It's just a low blinker fluid issue, top up with an approved bmw blinker fluid and you can skip this problem forever!

It's a wonder, really. They can figure out how to afford a $100, 000+ car, but they can't figure out a "complicated" 2 step process. /sarcasm
I'm sorry dude, that's not "complicated" at all. Those people are just too lazy to develop a new, easy habit. Since it's not in-line with what they've always done, they figure they'll go without because, "I earned this car. Don't tell me how to drive it."

Ppl saying it would take 5-10 min to learn these signals....30 secs worth of him describing how to use these and i know exactly how they work. And honestly... I dont think 30 sec is the minimum. If u cant learn this and use these effectively u dont need to be driving.

That's no justification for the lack of using a turn signal. From what I'm told they have fix that problem in newer models but yet they still don't use a turn signal in are the rudest drivers I've ever experienced besides Lexus. Then why buy a BMW if you're going to have that problem? you're going to get either rear-ended or you're going to hit somebody probably for destrian because of a lack of a turn signal which is failure to signal and failure to yield from a law enforcement perspective.

As a former BMW owner, it is seriously not that complicated. This is a lame excuse. You would have to be either stupid or lazy to not use your blinker.

All I'm hearing is some rich kid complain about how hard it is to flick a turn signal can't blame them for not using them???? No I can it the law just because they are lazy doesn't mean they can increase the chance of an accident
