BMWs look so much better 10 years ago than they do now in my opinion

Had a 335i for 4 years, amazing car and they’ve aged great, the n54 is a quality engine

So I actually have one of these, 2009 with N54 and dct. I found one that had its turbos replaced under warranty and have had it for 2.5 years so far. To anyone that is thinking of buying one: having to rev this engine to get the power is only a characteristic of it being remapped. Stock the thing is so linear, and with the dct it is just relentless, you plant your foot and it doesn't let up until the needle hits the end of the speedo. Reliability is an issue. The engine itself, is great, but everything that bolts to the engine is shit. Turbos, injectors, ignition coils, spark plugs, water pump, all the oil gaskets. All the above will fail at some point. Having said that. If you are prepared for it, and are into modding cars, this over and m3 anyday. Because the Americans are all over these cars, aftermarket support is insane!

Had a E93 335i M sport as daily driver for over 5 years. Pukka car! Kept up with servicing & maintenance never had a single issue

My family had our 2008 335i convertible since brand new and never had 1 problem with it apart from the electric roof, top quality car for it’s time !

I just brought a e92 335i 2008 full spec about one month ago. Yes it drinks fuel. Yes its expensive too maintain. But by god its worth every penny you put into it!

For prospective buyers:

Have had an E92 335i for ~ 3 years now. Bought it on 67k mileage, currently on 78k. Lovely car to hoon around in yet comfortable enough for a DD. Don’t plan on selling anytime soon. Only stage 1 so far. Have spent between 4k-5k maintaining the car (mostly the power plant ancillaries) to this point.

Not a cheap car to run in terms of maintenance but worth it when all runs well.

Been looking at these for ages on autotrader and never been able to have the balls to take the plunge as they need higher maintenance than most. But the enjoyment you’d get would be insane

I cross shopped a E46 M3 against the 335i, and ended up buying the 335i. After test driving both the 335i just felt nicer for day to day use and the prospect of being able to get a bunch more power for pennies swayed it. Stock for stock they're very similar performance in a straight line, but after a map the 335i feels substantially faster. The lack of subframe cracking issues also helped sway it. 4 years into ownership with no regrets.

Something to remember if you’re looking at old BMW’s under 100k miles in the uk...you can buy a Bmw full warranty from £440 a year on their website and having used it myself for thousands of ££‘S worth of work it’s worth it all day long

I have a manual one of these. I got it for 7k about 3 years ago with 120k on the clock. It's now got about 155. I've changed the water pump and a couple suspension top mounts and that's it, can't fault it. I got a remap and it was a none issue. It runs 340 bhp so only about 35 bhp uplift, but what you didn't mention is that it took torque from 400nm to 500nm, almost what a brand new 65k+ 340i has. 0-60 went from 5.5 to about 4.2. They are a lot of car for the money, and I refuse to sell it even though I hardly drive it. It comes with just about one of the best OEM sound systems I've heard and there's little missing that modern cars offer in real terms. Mine does have the rattle but you only hear it on start up, and it's genuinely impressive mines still on 15 year old original none replaced turbos, and is going strong.

2010 isn't pre lci

Ive had e92 and e90, e92 was manual e90 is auto. Id really love to dct swap but i really love my e90 the extra room is great my dog and friends can easily sit in the rear. Over the years ive done nearly every suspension mod, ST coilovers, m3 parts + adjustable control arms, and a few other parts. the way it drives and handles is an absolute dream. For such a pedestrian looking car its practically on rails. As far as engine mods its FBO making 395whp. A well balanced car with roughly 450 hp is such a blast and properly pulls on even some newer cars. Mustangs and challengers often have a hard time keeping up... Id love a single turbo for the exhaust note but upgraded turbos is in the near future so i can have a little more fun with these newer faster cars and probably meth for summer. 😁 The only thing that really bums me about purchasing a 335i over the e92 m3 is the wider fenders, my car looks great all blacked out and perfect stance but i really wish i had those wider fenders and 1" wider wheels and tires that comes with..

One benefit of the e90 over e92 when modded correctly, tasteful trunk diffuser etc the e90 has a much more aggressive rear end than the slumpy looking e92 💪

many options with this chassis s85, s65, n55 swap. before i own e93 i had a tuned k24 swap. you gotta know your stuff to own n54 or be prepared to be paying. definitely invest in tools, learn about the n54 so you can maintain it yourself. like every other car, gaskets O rings rear main or crank seals will hardern up causing leaks. you can get silicone gaskets which last longer. educate yourself you'll be ok.

I freakin loved my 335i. It was almost as fast as an e46 M3 but I actually enjoyed the 335i more because the M3 was so expensive to maintain
