Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi looked set on Tuesday to retain power at the head of a ruling coalition, but his Hindu nationalist party lost its outright majority for the first time in a decade as voters defied predictions of another landslide. The outcome spooked investors, with stocks falling steeply as emerging results showed that Modi would, for the first time since sweeping to power in 2014, depend on at least three disparate regional parties whose political loyalties have wavered over the years. Watch our special edition in replay.

Indian and South African elections are fair. Western Naysers talking about autocratic democracy in India can have a cup of coffee!

As an Indian Christian, I know that BJP is the party for development, progress and inclusive growth. A pro capitalist party. While opposition has been socialist. Modi NDA 3.0 has made history as being the first party to repeat power three consecutive times in 60 years. Talk about the positives also, and stop only one sided criticism. No party is perfect, and yes BJP should improve and may in future learn from mistakes where they used wrong words. But the growth for India has been for all Indian citizens and not limited to certain demographics, and we Indians respect the decision of our democracy. We support people’s decision and cherish this new era of India.

#BJP

2014 : 282 seats with 31% vote share
2019 : 303 seats with 37% vote share
2024 : 245 seats with 39% vote share

Just shows complexities of election maths

Also I believe BJP was on track to simple majority but for some blunders like ED/CBI misuse, breaking govts & parties, taking corrupt leaders in party which costed them & helped to consolidate opposition vote share

Those who won - they are upset
Those who lost -they are celebrating.
However I'm happy with this result. 😂😊

Democracy has won. No more armtiwsting and heckling of the system. Laws and bills will be passed with due diligence and debate. People have ensured that the govt is more accountable.

People in India don't want the development of infrastructure, military upgradation, strong internal security, flourishing J&K, pok, boost in startups, achievements in space exploration, easy cashless ecosystem and improvement in India's image in the international arena. They want freebies, caste reservation, religious reservation and free money in their bank accounts. India is very lucky that inspite of this immaturity displayed by its own citizens, a capable leader like Narendra modi again came to power in an historical win. This victory will be the turning point in the journey, that will take India from a developing nation towards a developed

If it were for any other country, the opposition would have been in trouble for their casting doubts on fairness of elections without proof.

That professor is an absolute hypocrite. It wasn’t in India when an elected man called for an armed violence when he suffered defeat. Where was his democratic backsliding when trump called on his supporters to seize White House. If you say that India lacks behind in press freedom, I would challenge the hosts of this show to travel to Afghanistan and try interviewing taliban and see what happens.
