Copts are a Christian ethno religious group indigenous to North Africa who have primarily inhabited the area of modern Egypt and Sudan since antiquity. They are the largest Christian denomination in Egypt and the Middle East, as well as in Sudan and Libya. Copts in Egypt account for roughly 5–15 percent of the Egyptian population; Copts in Sudan account for 1 percent of the Sudanese population, while Copts in Libya similarly account for 1 percent of the Libyan population.
Could they be direct descendants of ancient Egyptians? Continue watching to find out.
Copts are the descendants of pre-Islamic Egyptians, when Egyptian Muslims later ceased to call themselves by the demonym, the term became the distinctive name of the Christian minority. According to Y-DNA analysis by Hassan et al. (2008), around 45% of Copts in Sudan carry the Haplogroup J. The remainder mainly belong to the E1b1b clade (21%). Both paternal lineages are common among other local Afroasiatic-speaking populations (Beja, Ethiopians, Sudanese Arabs), as well as the Nubians. E1b1b/E3b reaches its highest frequencies among North Africans, Levantine Middle Easterners, and Ethiopid East Africans. The next most common haplogroups borne by Copts in Sudan are the European-linked R1b clade (15%), as well as the archaic African B lineage (15%).

Hollfelder et al. (2017) analysed various populations in Sudan and observed that Sudanese Copts have remained relatively isolated since their arrival to Sudan with only low levels of admixture with local northeastern Sudanese groups. This could mean that Sudanese Copts are genetically closest to the Ancient Egyptians due to the limited admixture with Arabs.
Let’s delve more into the Coptic Language.
Copts have historically spoken the Coptic language, a direct descendant of the Demotic Egyptian that was spoken in late antiquity. The Coptic language is the most recent stage of the Egyptian language. Coptic remained the spoken language of most Egyptians until it was slowly replaced by colloquial Egyptian Arabic in Lower Egypt and Sa'idi Arabic in Upper Egypt by the end of the 17th century, although it may have survived in isolated pockets for a little longer.
Today Coptic is extinct but it is still the liturgical language of the native Egyptian Churches (the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Coptic Catholic Church). It is taught worldwide in many prestigious institutions, but its teaching within Egypt remains limited.

Discrimination.
Religious freedom in Egypt is hampered to varying degrees by discriminatory and restrictive government policies. Coptic Christians, being the largest religious minority in Egypt, are also negatively affected. Copts have faced increasing marginalization after the 1952 coup d'état led by Gamal Abdel Nasser. Until recently, Christians were required to obtain presidential approval for even minor repairs in churches.

To anyone who is watching this video. This video is absolutely CORRECT.Even though Coptic Christians do show some non Egyptian admixture, their ancestry goes all way to prehistoric times, even before pyramids.

For those who have fallen into hoteb hustle of “ black Egypt “, they need to know two things .
Firstly, NOT one single black African population was ever indigenous population anywhere outside of subsaharan Africa. NEVER. Those black folks who say “ we were indigenous everywhere “ are just living in illusion. Even in subsaharan Africa you have nonblack populations ( Khoi San) who are brown skin and are not black .

Secondly, the population of prehistoric Egypt ( before pyramids) was related with prehistoric west Asian populations ( mostly natufians who were NOT black Africans) . These are 100% FACTS .

Good job Afro Artista .

Let me explain more, I am a Coptic Egyptian Orthodox Christian person, and Coptic means Egyptian, and the common name for Egyptian Orthodox Christians is Copts, because before the advent of Islam, we were originally ancient Egyptians, and our skin color and features were the same.

As a Coptic Egyptian I really appreciated this amazing informative video, we have largely been ignored by society. So thank you for this video.

It is nothing short of miraculous that the Copts have survived for so long despite all this violence.

I just subbed to your channel. I've seen a few of your videos and you showcase the beautiful diversity of Africa. I'm Black from the Americas, and I cringe every time race reductionists apply ahistorical nonsense to North Africa, the Horn and the continent at large. It's the most diverse continent of the planet; people will look different region to region. The weird comments posted here are embarrassing.

Genetics are fascinating! I will never understand why humanity gets so hung up about something as surface and inconsequential as skin tone! All of humanity is equally beautiful, it is learned bias that is hideous and ugly.

Let me correct this narrative, Coptic, is a religion not a race, they are people of North Africa who practiced Christianity. A faith that was transported around the Mediterranean world by the Romans and the Byzantines, which became the state religion of North Africa and the rest of the Roman / Byzantine world before the Advent of the Arabian invasion

North Africa has nothing to do with blacks, Europe or Arabs. It is a special region and a different race, so don't philosophize too much.

Discrimination?
Moslem told me their religion is peacefull and rahmatan Lil alamin(blessing for a whole world)....
So in these case, either the Moslem lied to me or the attackers are not Moslem already, somebody must tell me....

Haplogroup R1b
It is the most frequently occurring paternal lineage in Western Europe, as well as some parts of Russia (e.g. the Bashkirs) and across the Sahel in Central Africa, namely: Cameroon, Chad, Guinea, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal (concentrated in parts of Chad with concentration in the Hausa Tribe and among the Chadic-speaking ethnic groups of Cameroon).
