People often fail to remember that a lot of the accents in uk are class based so you won’t find as much accent variation with the middle class and upper class which is why some of these accents aren’t common in the media as most people with distinct accents are lower class working people.

One thing that really annoys me is that people who aren’t from the UK assume that we all speak Cockney or like the queen

I’m from Wales and read the word valleys and immediately switched my tone and said out loud “Ah, the valleys” in the thickest valleys accent I could muster

Smoggie is an accent from Middlesbrough, they were called smoggies due to the heavy smog (the smoke) caused in the steelworks and the ship building industry. And therefor you get smoggie.

Curiously in North Wales when speaking Cymraeg they have different dialects in towns not a 30minute drive apart. Folk in Bethesda are sometimes baffled by the pronunciation of folk in Caernarfon.

The Indian accent which I speak in is similar to the southern Welsh accent but unlike the Welsh accent Indians speak slower

Corbyite for anyone wondering. Corby is a town in Northamptonshire with a huge Scottish population. Mass migration from 60s-80s . It’s known as little Scotland

Bristol alone has at least five different accents. Southmead, East Bristol (think Stephen Merchant), Knowle West, Bedminster, Westbury-on-Trym all markedly different from each other

Smoggie is the word to describe Middlesbrough, as it used to be one of England’s industrial powerhouses. The air was full of smoke and smog, which is why the area is nicknamed Smogtown and the football team are the Smoggies.

As a bit of an aficionado on this ( fancy word for ill-educated fan...😂) subject, AND a native speaker of the gibberish known world-wide as Glaswegian, I can state with complete authority that this area of study needs it's own channel... and like a drunken Glasgow guy in a pub in Hackney, the arguments and blows would be traded back and forth at a hurricane rate... 🤣👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
