I recently finished Islets on Switch, a fantastic Metroidvania.

Astalon tears of earth is also a great metroidvania where you control multiple characters, has roguelite elements, and classic pixel graffics and soundtrack. A true homage to the 8 bit era.

The last faith is one upcoming metroidvania game that is on my most anticipated list. It looks like a 2d bloodborne with castlevania elements mixed in. I hope we get a release date for it soon. Everyone was hyped for elden ring and gow ragnarok this year, and so was I, but I'm actually just as excited about the last faith as well. I grew up on the original nes, so 2d games will always hold a top tier spot in my heart. On another note Infernax might be the most fun this older gamer has had in years on any game. They took some of my favorite games from my childhood and molded them into a masterpiece of a game that almost demands multiple playthroughs if you want to see everything it offers. Really hoping we get a sequel of some kind to it

Check out Dandara (trials of fear edition). Very challenging and interesting mechanics that take a bit to get used to but some real fun to be had and amazing soundtrack.

Souldiers is so profoundly underrated. I only played post patch, but the master difficulty is *perfect* for someone who loves the grind and punishment a game can offer. It's unreal the negative responses it got, but I think that had a lot to do with the bugs at launch, then it gained a reputation people just stayed away from. If more people gave it a shot I'm sure it would catch on a whole lot more

One Metroidvania that I got addicted to is SuperEpic. It's sort of a funny one, but it is also very challenging and there are many things to find in the large complex where you work. It also integrates QR codes and your phone to 'mine' the in game currency for purchasing things which is very unique.

An honorable mention should go to: F.I.S.T: Forged in Shadow Torch
Its an awesome Metroidvania game. Great visuals and combat along side a voiced cast of characters.
