Finally, here’s part two of our subcompact seven-seater Big Test featuring the Honda BR-V, the Hyundai Stargazer, the Toyota Veloz, and the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. Part one, which covered acceleration and braking, cargo space, and extra features, ended with the Stargazer in the lead. We now have five more tests to go to determine which contender takes the win.

This second and final installment will cover ride comfort, handling, interior space, maneuverability, and value for money (including fuel economy). Just to remind you, all the competitors here are in top-spec trim. The BR-V, priced at P1,390,000 for the VX trim, makes 119hp and 145Nm. The Stargazer, selling for P1,288,000 for the GLS spec, generates 113hp and 144Nm. The Xpander Cross, valued at P1,328,000, puts out 103hp and 141Nm; it’s also the only contender still equipped with a four-speed automatic, while the rest have continuously variable transmissions. Finally, the Veloz, with an asking price of P1,250,000 in V form, boasts 105hp and 138Nm.

These kind of tests are the ones I look for. No b.s, all facts and real life scenarios. Hope to see more of this.

It was an eye opening review from you guys. You guys did very well. You scored the cars in significant categories for daily driving. Safety and spacious interiors score big points in my book.

This convinced me to get the stargazer X. No regrets, had a santa fe and a tucson, parts are hard to find but it doesn't break down as much as other people think hyundai cars do. It's all in the maintenance and driving habits

Thank you for confirming my decision to get a Hyundai Stargazer. Test drove it out no lag during shift changes, NVH is great, leg and head rooms are better than expected. ALso tried the Veloz and Expander same feedback as yours. Did not consider the new BR-V at the onset cost muc h higher than the Stargazer. Would have been great if the Stargazer was equipped with a front and rear dashcam to do away with running cables around the unit's interior. IF factory equipped it will definitely be more seamless. . Thanks again.

I've been watching many reviews and comparissions already.
So I was already expecting the Stargazer to get the win. Glad to know it did not disappoint.

Not surprising anymore since even with MPV comparos from other countries like Indonesia, Stargazer won by a mile.

Good job with the review guys. Hats off to Stargazer owners - - - that is one solid MPV. Very consistent performer even with other reviews in the region. And super good looking.

Not to take anything away from the other brands. All are awesome units. Really depends on the driver.

I go for the BRV if want something smaller with the bells and whistles.

The Veloz for practicality. This is a good everyday MPV.

The Xpander is still good looking. But based on the review - was little bit caught up with its old format. Good that it has the chance to still improve in later versions I hope.

The Stargazer..well all the good things combined with a competitive price tag and performance. Simple well balanced.

Keep up the good work. TopGear team.

Even though, the Hyundai Stargazer won but I think the interior looks and Info-entertainment of Toyota Veloz is much attractive...

Thanks for the Nice review ! big eye opener for us that we made the right choice ! also, please check the note on 27:45 mark, 4th place should be xpander cross and not Stargazer. 😊

But why is fuel efficiency not scored in this test? That's one of the key areas that I'm sure many people consider when getting a new vehicle.

To be painfully honest, I feel quite bad for people who bought the 2023 Xpander Cross. Even before watching this grand comparo, I've seen tons of reviews of those featured MPVs and for a hefty price of 1.33 million pesos, it's the second-most expensive MPV after the Honda BR-V but the cheaper Stargazer and Veloz get more features than the Xpander Cross.

And, yes, I can already feel people rebutting at me about the Xpander Cross's high ground clearance, aggressive looks, parts their top 3 ace cards to be played against other MPVs. They do themselves, but again, again, and then again, most buyers will take into consideration the most the value for money, and the Stargazer easily takes the CAKE, CAKE, CAKE, CAKE, CAKE. (stream cake by itzy btw🍰)

So yeah. All I can say is that it just makes no sense to buy an Xpander Cross on the practical side. Either spend a few more 5-digit pesos for the most-feature packed BR-V, or just go for the Xpander GLS if one wants to get the Xpander line because most features that can be found on the Cross are also available on the cheaper GLS. But then again, best value for money, the Stargazer.

happy for the stargazer. that said, i don't regret buying the brv. :)

If you're going for the look of an SUV with the utility of an MPV, I think the BR-V has the best balance of both.
